using Linux as a NAS / SAN device
Hi, I''m looking at using Linux as a NAS / SAN device, and would like some input from other''s who have done this before? How would it compare to commercial SAN devices, Thecus N8800SAS (http://www.thecus.com/products_over.php?cid=11&pid=177&set_language=english) or something similar to these? I would probably use hardware RAID 10, and could go with either SAS / SATA,

How to detect telco Message Waiting Indicator (WMI)
I'd like to be able to configure Asterisk to detect and respond to message waiting indications from my telco, as I'm using the telco voicemail as a fallback in case the Asterisk line is busy, Asterisk or it's server is down, etc. Detecting either the FSK (preferred) or the stutter-tone, would allow Asterisk to notify me that there it missed a message. smb2_validate_message_id log message
I am using samba 4.0.9 under Ubuntu server 12.04. The samba installation in question is a domain member and the primary file server in a mixed Linux/Win environment. The domain controller is also samba 4.0.9, . I occasionally receive messages like the following errors in my syslog: smbd[2612]: [2013/10/30 14:06:25.368202, 0] ../source3/smbd/smb2_server.c:667(smb2_validate_message_id)

Samba 4 replication experiences?
I'm giving a presentation on Samba 4 to my local user group later this week. Although I have plenty to share, I haven't tried out its domain replication functionality. Some parts of the web site suggest that DC replication is still a work in progress, others say it's all good. I'd like to hear some reports from the field. Do you have current or recent experience with Samba

Folder disappears on rename
I have Samba 4.0.9 installed under Ubuntu 12.04. It's configured as a domain member, with a Windows 2008R2 server being the DC. All workstations are running Windows 7. One of my users is reporting problems in the following scenario: 1) She creates a folder in one of the Samba shares, and places a number of documents there. 2) She closes all open documents and closes Windows Explorer 3)

Access Windows files with individual user credentials
Dear fellow Samba fans, This seems like a blatantly obvious need, but I'm not finding anything in the Samba literature addressing it. Maybe my search-fu is just failing me. I have a collection of Linux machines with multiple simultaneous users. The Linux machines are all running Samba 4.1.7, compiled from the source since my distro (CentOS 6.6) isn't that current. We are operating
