OSX Intrusion Suspected, Advice Sought
...n't OT. Assuming there is no osx-security list or newsgroup your best bet would be to contact Apple directly. However, given Apple's difficulties issuing patches and all the insecure, desktop-oriented changes made to OSX's older FreeBSD base, it's a losing battle (IME). -- Roger Marquis Roble Systems Consulting http://www.roble.com/

rate limiting sshd connections ?
Does anyone know of a way to rate limit ssh connections from an IP address ? We are starting to see more and more brute force attempts to guess simple passwords "/usr/sbin/inetd -wWl -C 10" is nice for slowing down attempts to services launched via inetd. Is there an equiv method for doing this to sshd? Running from inetd has some issues supposedly. ---Mike

Is there a way to version the contents of a table as a set?
I am looking at using acts_as_versioned to manage revisions of data in several tables in my application. However, the default behavior of acts_as_versioned appears to apply to individual rows within a table. The tables I want to version are complicated lookup tables and what I really want is to version the entire contents of each table as a single set. Adding a row, deleting a row, or updating

Is log_in_vain really good or really bad?
Heya.. Yesterday someone "attacked" by box by connection to several ports.. In other words, a simple portscan.. yet, since my box has "log_in_vain" enabled, so it tries to log everything to /var/log/messages, since the logfile got full and the size went over 100K, it tried to rotate the log to save diskspace. ITSP's no longer supporting IAX?
After a variety of connectivity problems, my itsp (Unlimitel.ca) blamed the problem on the IAX protocol. They told me that as of Asterisk 1.4 the IAX protocol went downhill and many carriers (like VoicePulse) are discontinuing support for IAX. Is this correct? We are all heading for SIP?
