pam_mount issue
Ladies and Gentlemen, Greeting and Felicitations! We are running FC1 (Samba 3.0.2) and pam_mount 0.9.20. ?The Linux machine is a domain member, which has PDC and file server running NT4. I have setup Samba and winbind such that a user may log in on the Linux machine without having a local account, authentication being handled by PDC and this works successfully. ?If I login as an ordinary

Characters and Numeric Values in One Matrix
Dear R-Users, I want to ask a question for a colleague of mine. He wants to put a character vector and a numeric vector into one matrix and still have the old character and numeric type for the respective columns. Unfortunately, I am just starting using R and I could not help him. Is there an easy and straightforward way to do this in R? Maybe a little example facilitates understanding our

Efficient marginal sums?
Hi Folks, [This is not unrelated to the current "vector of vectors" thread, but arises quite independently] Say I have a function f(x,y) which computes a value for scalar x and y; or, if either x=X or y=Y is a vector, a corresponding vector of values f(X,y) or f(x,Y) (with the usual built-in vectorisation of operations). Now I have X=(x.1,x.2,...,x.m) and Y=(y.1,y.2,...,y.n). I'm

Changing "..." inside a function: impossible? desirable?
This is was something like a request for your comments, thoughts on the topic... Many of you will know that the "..." (aka \dots) argument is very useful for passing ``further graphical parameters'', but can be a pain when itself is passed to too many plotting functions inside your own function. An artificial example being myplot <- function(x,y, ...) { plot(0:1, 0:1,

Workaround for RH #502499?
I have a workstation with a Gigbyte board and an Intel Corporation 82801EB (ICH5) SATA Controller (rev 02) that's apparently getting bitten by https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=502499 It's running CentOS 5.4 32 bit, and the user is suffering from high load and sluggish response whenever a disk write of more than a few MB is made. iostat shows the disk at 100%. Prototype.js: Is there an "in_array"-like function?
Hi i was wondering if there is a quick way to search for a item within an array. Here is my approach for this functionality. It''s an prototype for an Array method called "has": Array.prototype.has = function(needle) { for (var i=0;i<this.length;i++) { if(this[i] == needle){ return true; } } return false; } var someArray = [''jim'',

Randomising matrices
I would like to be able to randomise presence-absence (i.e. binary) matrices whilst keeping both the row and column totals constant. Is there a function in R that would allow me to do this? I'm working with vegetation presence-absence matrices based on field observations. The matrices are formatted to have sites as rows and species as columns. The presence of a species on a site is

error message fitting tcopula
Hi r-users,   I really need help in fitting the t-copula.  I try to reproduce the example given by Jun Yan in “Enjoy the joy of copula” but I’m not sure how to correct the error based on the error message.  I tried so many ways but still could not get it working.   loglik.marg <- function(b, x) sum(dgamma(x, shape = b[1], scale = b[2], log = TRUE))   ctrl <- list(fnscale = -1)   #dat <-

NAT troubles with IPSEC traffic
I just got the list confirmation and noticed it''s text only email so here it is again in plain text. Below is the oringal message. Hi all, I am really struggling with this one, I have built a lot of linux machines using IPSEC tunnels and shorewall gateways. I decied to build a new test machine with Debian running 2.4.25 and Shorewall 2.0.15. I have two subnets on their own switches and

strange fisher.test result
A simple question - using the following fishers test it appears that the P value is significant, but the CI includes 1. Is this result correct? > data.50p10min <- matrix(c(16,15, 8, 24),nrow=2) > fisher.test(data.50p10min) Fisher's Exact Test for Count Data data: data.50p10min p-value = 0.03941 alternative hypothesis: true odds ratio is not equal to 1 95

difficulties with MuMIn model generation with coxph
Hi All, I'm having trouble with the automatized model generation (dredge) function in the MuMIn package. I'm trying to use it to automatically generate subsets of models from a global cox proportional hazards model, and rank them based on AICc. These seems like it's possible, and the Mumin documentation says that coxph is supported. However, when I run the code (see below), it gives

Creating HD Boot Images
I have been trying to track down information on building HD boot images for ISOLINUX and MEMDISK, and so far, haven't had a whole lot of luck. I've found a number of sources describing the process of setting up ISOLINUX and MEMDISK, and how to configure the boot CD to boot various OS's. I've also read through Bart Lagerweij's BootCD/ModBoot pages, and Mikhail

plotting a marginal distribution on the plane behind a persp() plot
R'istas: I am trying to plot a marginal distribution on the plane behind a persp() plot. My existing code is: library(MASS) X <- mvrnorm(1000,mu=c(0,0),Sigma=matrix(c(1,0,0,1),2)) X.kde <- kde2d(X[,1],X[,2],n=25) # X.kde is list: $x 1*n, $y 1*n, $z n*n persp(X.kde,phi=30,theta=60,xlab="x_b",ylab="x_a",zlab="f") ->res Any suggestions are very

A question about R environment
Hi all, I created environment "mytoolbox" by : mytoolbox <- new.env(parent=baseenv()) Is there anyway I put it in the search path ? If you need some background : In a project, I often write some small functions, and load them into my workspace directly, so when I list the objects with ls(), it looks pretty messy. So I am wondering if it is possible to creat an

How to actively join you all
Hello R Community, I am really impressed by the 'R'. I am a computer engineer. Further, I have done work on Linux Code at my home and Worked on Cisco IOS platform. I would like to contribute to the software i.e. i would like to devote my free time for its development, but i do not know how to join the development team. If anybody can tell me the way then please show me the way. I
