"It is to address the "waah, backups fill my memory with pagecache" and
the "waah, updatedb swapped everything out" and the "waah, copying a DVD

Authorizing login per station
Hi,
We're using Samba 2.2.2 as a PDC for W2k and XP clients. We have
two types of users - "regular" users and "management". The problem I have
is to allow only the "management" users to login from certain stations,
and deny the login rights to regular users. That is, I need the ability do
set per-station login permissions.
Is there a way to do this using samba

slow streaming but fast copy
Hi List,
I have some very strange problems with samba on my shiny new server.
The first problem was that file transfers were very slow (copying a
file of 700Mb took 50 minutes over 100Mbit network). I checked other
protcols (ftp/http/scp) on the server and they were able to use the
100Mbit link for full. After a lot of debugging, I found that the
problem was related to oplocks. When disabling

API Call Bridge?
Hi All,
Does anyone know of a way to dial two different outbound numbers and bridge them together using the Asterisk API?
Cheers,
Taff.

Newbie problem
I'm trying to set up a Samba server following "Using Samba" pretty
religiously. I have compiled and installed version 3.0. Everything
works pretty much as expected until I try to make a Windows XP client a
domain member. Then when I put in root in the Name Change dialog, it
get a user name could not be found error. But the XP client has no
trouble with root as a user name in

Error after Updating version of Ubuntu
Hello all.
I was using Ubuntu 9.10 and ruby on rails with it. I had installed few
applications of rails in it. I use Aptana Rad Rails for all my
applications.
Everything was running fine until I updated my Ubuntu.
I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 online through update mangager. Then when I
run
rake db:migrate it gives the following error:
"rake aborted!

Synchronizing R libraries on N machines?
Hello!
I am using R on two different machines (under Ubuntu and OS X, but this
is probably irrelevant) and I would like to keep the two installations
'synchronized', in particular in terms of installed packages. For
example, if I install package xxx on my Linux machine, I would like to
find it installed also on my Mac, and vice versa.
I imagine this to be a fairly common problem, so I

AD Integration woes - rfc2307 data not being honored
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga) - x86_64
Samba - 3.0.28-0.el5.8
Objective: To have samba authenticate against AD and utilize the values set for the AD rfc2307 schema.
Problem: Values stored in AD are not being used.
The samba server has successfully joined the AD, but when I do a getent passwd | grep <user> the uid, none of the values returned match what is stored in

Steam Games Don't Work. Please Help!
I bought a new computer for myself, and installed Kubuntu on it. I installed Steam on it, bought the orange box, tried to run TF2, and it didn't work. When I started it up, t showed the VALVE logo and played their little jingle, showed the Source logo, then the screen went blank and nothing happened :x . It opened it in the Konsole (Terminal) and it gave me this when the screen (on the desktop

Creating/Reading a complex string in R
Thanks for your pointer.
Is there any way in R how to replace " ' " with " /' " programmatically?
My actual string is quite lengthy, so changing it manually may not be
possible. I am aware of gsub() function, however not sure I can apply
it directly on my original string.

syncer causing latency spikes
Hello,
I'm trying to investigate and solve some postgres latency spikes that
I'm seeing as a result of some behaviour in the syncer. This is with
FreeBSD 8.2 (with some local modifications and backports, r231160 in
particular). The system has an LSI 9261-8i RAID controller (backed by
mfi(4)) and the database and WALs are on separate volumes, a RAID 6 and
a RAID 1 respectively. It has
