Hello, this is my first time writing to this mailing list. The language which is spoken in the list is english? I'm german. So please correct me. I try to install Samba 2.2.2 on a Linux Mandrake8 machine. Compiling the source and installing it worked well. at the moment the file smbpasswd is missing. How can I create this file? Shouldn't the install routine create that file? Thanks for any help. -- best regards Roland

Hi, Every once in awhile the subject of faxing through Samba comes up and there are some really interesting solutions offered. Here we go again. My question is more related to hardware. What modems are the successful Samba faxers using these days? Though to software works fine, the hardware leaves a something to be desired. I had assumed that seeing the [OK] when manually starting was indication that it was okay (duh). My log file shows an error: Get_Hostbyname: Unknown host mandrake8 Weird thing is that the log file is in /var/log/samba and is called log.smbd (or is that normal??).
