Is there a way to find out how the CentOS 7.5 Linux box got infected with

Linux malware attack
SlashDot had an article today on a Linux server malware attack,
<http://it.slashdot.org/story/14/03/18/2218237/malware-attack-infected-25000-linuxunix-servers>.
I wonder if there is a simple test to see if a CentOS machine
has been infected in this way?
The article mentions Yara and Snort rules to test for this,
but I wonder if there is something simpler?
Alternatively, are there Yara or

Wine runs your malware!
http://www.trustedsource.org/blog/186/Running-Windows-Malware-in-Linux
So: avoid running toxic waste, and use a fresh .wine and run ClamAV
over it regularly if you're fond of trying random binaries found on
the Net a lot ;-)

Recommendations for image malware detection?
Hello all --
This is not a CentOS specific question, but I have a feeling some of you
are involved in enterprise malware efforts, so here goes.
Does anyone have recommendations for malware detection that includes
detection in image files? I'm looking for something that could be
integrated into a batch cron process as opposed to a client end download
check.
Thanks.

OT: Possible for Malware against Windows boxes to attack Firefox on Linux?
My belief is that this is not possible, but there are many extremely
knowledgeable people participating on this list and I would like to
know if it is in fact possible. I am running CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) fully
updated. Browser is Mozilla Firefox v.3.0.7.
I believe both times this happened, once yesterday and once today, I
was surfing on the web site of my favorite singer/musical group; or in

R is a virus, spyware or malware (gasp!)
After a search session in Google, I found this page:
http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X1993788672854780728-0/RGUI.EXE.html
which classifies Rgui.exe (clearly stated as "R for Windows GUI
front-end") in a database of virus, spyware and malware!

Testing for Windows malware under Wine
After using Linux for some time, I realized that this might be another good use for wine.
I've been seeing the commercials for PC SpeedScan by Ascentive and have even been asked about it by non-techie friends. Since my Ubuntu system isn't real mission critical, I decided to throw caution to the winds and installed the 'product'.
One behavior of malware is that it purposely does

Sieve during read or login?
I was wondering if anyone thought of applying filters to email post
delivery, pre-read.
Basically the idea would be to head off Spam, Malware or Phishing for
already delivered email. Malware would probably be the least likely
target, as (knock on wood) user workstations would be updated, but a
targeted phishing scam would not create a public signature that would
be downloaded, yet an
