Why echo occurs
...oes not have an "echo canceller". The echo I mean is when I hear myself while talking to another party. I have heard it said it is because of some slowdown of the signal. But where is this mysterious bottleneck? 1. It is not in the Asterisk box because IP to IP calls do not suffer this malady 2. It is not from the Central Office to my premesis because my $5 analogue handset works without echo. Also PRI ISDN works without echo. Can anyone explain what I am missing?

NOT an R problem: cannot install packages from distant repository
I met today a computer crash and our maintenance officer had to reinstall some components of the OS (MS Windows XP Pro) as well as the Internet browser (among other things). Now, I cannot install packages from a distant repository: > utils:::menuInstallPkgs() Error in .readRDS(pfile) : unknown input format > traceback() 5: .readRDS(pfile) 4: .packages(all.available = TRUE) 3:

censored counts and glmer/glmmADMB
dear R-users, I have to model counts where all counts above some threshold have been censored. In the same dataset I have too many zeroes for a Poisson or even a negative binomial distribution to make sense, so I would need a zero-inflated-censored negative binomial family for use in glmer (or glmmADMB?). That seems not to exist. my question is : how could I add a custom-built family of

Binaries of R.12.0 for Windows: where are RGUI and Rterm ?
Dear all, I've just downloaded R.12.0 from CRAN (http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/release.htm). I am unable to find RGUI.exe as well as Rterm.exe. Conversely to what is explained in readme.R.2.12.0: There are two versions of the R executable in R-2.12.0\bin\i386 (32-bit) or R-2.12.0\bin\x64 (64-bit). I can't find directories i386 or x64 in R-2.12.0\bin -- Renaud Lancelot EDEN

Error/Crash on start up of R (Ubuntu and Wine within Ubuntu)
Hello, I'm having issues operating R under Ubuntu (Hardy 8.04) though I suspect this is not necessarily the malady. I have attempted to run R in ubuntu as is which worked for awhile and then stopped (using RKWard as the windowing environment). I tried removing then re-installing the software and the same issue (which i'll detail soon) persisted. I then tried using WINE to run R using the Windows version...

F test in lmer quasipoisson
Hello !! II'm trying to test for my fixed effects using an lmer with quasipoisson errors. Since my lmer model is corrected for overdispersion using this kind of errors, I should use during model simplification in my Anovas *F test *and not *Chi square test* to compare two models. So I write: > anova(model,model2,test="F") but R keeps performing a Chi square instead of the F

sweave and R. Searching for a document that will get me started
windows XP R 2.8.1 I would like to learn to use Sweave with R. I have no experience using Latex. I have looked at the sweave manual (http://www.statistik.lmu.de/~leisch/Sweave/Sweave-manual.pdf) and have found it difficult to understand, probably because I don't know Latex. Can someone recommend a document that will get me started with Sweave? Thanks John Confidentiality Statement: This

Boot Log Problems
Hi, I have just updated from CentOS 4 to 5 and I am seeing a problem with udev during booting, but I am unable to track it down as it looks like the boot.log is not working. The file is there but empty and the previous log only lists events up to the point at which I upgraded. syslog.conf looks ok to me in so much as there is an entry pointing to /var/log/boot.log. Any suggestions as to what I

Sweave: option keep.source=TRUE and package cacheSweave
Dear all, When I use the cacheSweave package together with the Sweave option keep.source = TRUE, all the LaTeX code before the Sweave code chunk is included in the TeX file to be compiled. For example, with the following Sweave file \documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage[nogin]{Sweave} % Sweave options \SweaveOpts{keep.source=TRUE, strip.white=TRUE, eps=FALSE, pdf=TRUE} \begin{document}
