wanting to pkg_add KDE/Gnome post-install
After installing a text-based development environment via /stand/sysinstall
(followed by CVSup, makeworld/kernel etc to 4-8-stable), I realize I want to
install KDE, too.
I initiated this with:
pkg_add -r kdebase
followed again by CVSup etc.
Apparently that wasn't enough. Am getting message "XFree86 setup utility.. not
installed" when trying to config xf86config (text-based) via /sta...

Upgrade to 4.8 STABLE - Root mount failed: 6
I am trying to upgrade my system from 4.7RELEASE to 4.8STABLE. I have
followed the instructions from the manual:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/makeworld.html
Right now, I am on step 21.4.8 Reboot into Single User Mode. I have compiled
my new kernel, and I was trying to reboot into single user mode to test the
new kernel. When I do this, I get the following error message:

Updating from 4.8 release to 4.8 stable
Hello,
I am very new to FreeBSD and just installed 4.8 release. I want to upgrade this to stable. I have printed some of the pages out for makeworld and CVSUP, I am wondering what the best method for doing the updates are, downloading the individual packages and installing or using the CVSUP to do this? Currently I used mostly Red Hat Linux but have wanted to give this a try for some time now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Installing FreeBSD-Stable and Upgrading to FreeBSD-Stable
I am a newbie trying to get the most current Stable version of FreeBSD
running. I have been using CVS to update my system, but things don't work
after an update. For example KDE 3.1 (from KDE 3.0) doesn't start using
startkde.
I am looking for instructions on the best way to Install the lastest
version of FreeBSD-Stable and how to Upgrade the system in the future.
Thanks.

system from FreeBSD RELEASE 4.7 to "STABLE"

I followed
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/makeworld.html
But when I get to "21.4.9 Install the New System Binaries" This happens:
root@smeagol /usr/src # make installworld
mkdir -p /tmp/install.16560
for prog in [ awk cap_mkdb cat chflags chmod chown date echo egrep find

Then, ran Zimbra.
It went all the way long successully. So I now have zimbra up and running.

Media formats
Is CentOS held to the same philosophy as Fedora by NOT including apps
to play formats such mp3 etc.
If this is the case, how easy is it (looking for a how-to url) to add
things such as gstream-bad to a Cent install.

Cent LDAP server
Forgive my ignorance on this topic - I would like to build an LDAP
server at our shop. We a native 2k3 domain and would like this Cent LDAP
server to pull in all the info from AD. Then periodically, have the Cent
server sync with new addition/subtractions of AD.
Is there a How-To out there somewhere that someone can point me to?
