Seeking Packaging advice
...h a dependence on the base package if necessary (the particular change I've made actually produces a few distinct files, slight tweaks of existing ones, that can stand on their own) b) package the new things in with the old under the same name as the old (obviously requires working with package maintainter) c) package the new things with the old and give it a new name. I'm also curious about what development strategy is best; I did b), and it seemed to work OK. But I kept expecting it to cause disaster (it probably helped that I usually didn't load the baseline survival packages; clearly th...

FLAC 1.1.3 released
...angelog entry for complete details: http://flac.sourceforge.net/changelog.html#flac_1_1_3 Thanks to everyone who pitched in, from patches to testing to feedback! I have created patches for many flac-dependent projects to update to the API changes, and sent them out to project leads and package maintainters. If you did not get patches or you run into a project that needs them, let me know and I will get them to you. Installing Sanba in SCO
I have several SCO UNIX system were I would like to install Samba. Some of these machines are running SCO 5.0.7 which comes with a Samba version 2.2, the other machines running SCO 5.0.6 do not have Samba. I would like to upgrade the Samba to V.3 on the newer machines and to be able to install it on the older systems, but I am unable to find out a download from Samba.org for SCO. Could some one

upgrade to 4.8.3 authentication not work without specifying domain
I say put on a yellow vest and then go talk to that surgeon again. ;-) Try it, and i mean really put on a yellow vest.. then talk. And tell im very simple. Current system can be maintaint anymore due to outdated os-ses. Upgrading is obligates, the longer he waits te more it will cost him. And thats only because of inflations.. And really, first its a workgroup, now its a classic NT domain.

3.01 & FreeBSD Port/Install Makefile Config
Hello, It appears that the FreeBSD port of Samba 3.0.x may be falling behind. The port maintainter does not use Winbind and thus has not kept up with the development of it. 3.0.1 will very shortly be ported to FreeBSD, currently it is still at 3.0.0. I know there have been some recent changes to Samba that help FreeBSD out, and I wanted to make sure that the port of Samba 3.0.x on FreeBSD stays...

Mustek PowerMust 848
Hi, I'm not the maintainter for the "megatec_usb" driver (in fact, I'm no longer maintainer for the base "megatec" either), so I don't really know the status for that particular UPS. I'm forwarding this to the NUT mailing-list though. Regards, -- Carlos Rodrigues On Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 10...

nmap not scanning networks?
Hello! Attempt to scan a network with any method except plain ping results in an error: truss nmap -sT -p 21 '172.19.17.*' [...] sendto(0x4,0x8094200,0,0x0,{ AF_INET 172.19.17.0:0 },0x10) ERR#49 'Can't assign requested address' [...] What's strange that man on send(2) doesn't state that EADDRNOTAVAIL can ever be returned from sendto(). Quick look at nmap's site

CentOS for commercial use
I'm a home user of CentOS (a desktop and a laptop) because I like the quality of the product and I love the cost. I'm a great believer in FOSS. That being said, I know that some of you use CentOS for production servers and (perhaps?) desktops as well. I've read at leat one comment like "I have 20 CentOS servers." My employer is a firm believer in RHEL - license costs are

upgrade to 4.8.3 authentication not work without specifying domain
I updated a centos 7 without changing the samba configuration. Before authentication worked even without having to specify the domain to the logon. After the update, on the other hand, it is mandatory to specify the domain. user password: not work. domain \ user password work. I have 5000 windows (xp / 7/10) clients not in domain. Client workgroups are varied. Users are not expert at all and

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc??? Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR. Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to
