MailSlots compatibility ??
Hello !
I am trying to make "Realpopup" (a winpopup like under windows) able to
send messages to a Linux machine.
The problem is that "Realpopup" sends messages using the MailSlots
protocol only.
I have heard about an option on the samba-side to enable MailSlots
compatibility. However, I have searched in all SAMBA documentation and
haven't found anything about it.
Can you help me ?

Problems browsing from W98 on campus network with samba domain master
On my campus network, there's one wins server that can see every machine
on every subnet.
I want to provide access to all these computers to the W98 boxes in my
workgroup. So here's what I did:
I created my own workgroup, set myself to be the local browse master and
domain master. So now everything works properly on my linux box (rh 6.0,
samba 2.0.5a) and the W98 boxes in my workgroup

Win2k Domain logons
Hi everyone. I just got a copy of Win2k in and have been messing with it.
Have a question, and have searched the archives for the answer, but didn't
find it. Can Win2k domain logon to a pre-3.0.0 samba server? Or di I
need to get TNG running? I can get NT4.0 boxes to authenticate and login
fine (Samba pre-3.0.0), but Win2k keeps complaining:

current master browser = UNKNOWN / failing WINS test #1 on 3.0.23c
I am having trouble with one of my samba PDC's. It does not recognize
itself as the domain master browser even though it is set to be so. I
can not add machines to this domain and I suspect this is why. Has
anybody seen this or know what causes it? Notice this:
DOMAIN_ALBANY(3) current master browser = ALBANY_PDC
DOMAIN_NYC(2) current master browser = NYC_PDC

Please help me decipher a two-packet NetBT conversation...
My clients are Windows XP SP1 and SP2, members of a Samba-PDC NT domain
(tested 3.0.7 and 3.0.10, same result). Attached is ethereal output
of a two packet client-server exchange that takes place when an offline
files sync is done. SP1 quickly does this exchange twice - first
broadcast, then unicast (as attached) and goes on its way. SP2 tries,
pauses many seconds, tries again, finally

Can't see shares on a server member
Hi team,
I'm dealing with AS/U as a member server on a Samba 3.0.20 PDC.
Jonction seems ok, and from the member server I can see PDC's shares (with
net view) and authenticate user (with net logon user passwd
/domain:domainname).
On the other side, I fell into timeout when running smbclient -L member
from the PDC. Here is a log.nmbd loglevel 10 from PDC as there is no other

winbind initialization: GetDC got invalid response type 21
Hi all,
I'm running Samba 3.0.28 on CentOS 5.1 as a PDC. I'm having problems
with winbind taking a long to initialize or reconnect to the domain.
For example, starting winbind and then checking the trust secret takes
~30 seconds:
# time /usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded

Since two years now, I was looking inside samba to understand how things
work (and don't work !!). Once I understood well the netbios and smb
protocol, I started to program a winpop server to handle messages send
via \\.\MAILSLOT\MESSNGR because I couldn't find a server for mailslots
and doesn't want to hack each new version of samba to have a way of
getting ans sending mailslots transactions. Messages send with Netbios

Also I needed to make netbios name resolution for sending mailslots

Can join domain; can't logon
I had a problem similar to my current one a week or so ago, and I was
encouraged to upgrade from Samba 2.2.9 to 3.0.7, which I did. Now
that I've completed that nightmare, the problem I initially set out to
fix is still there, just different. Namely:
I am trying to set up Samba 3.0.7 on a SuSE 9.1 box as an LDAP PDC
whose only job will be authentication. Our LDAP server is on a
