Can this work?
I would like to develop a system where by I can boot any of the
machines on my system - and select from a menu what I would like that
particular client to do. For example, maybe load a bootdisk image from
a network share, and boot that. Or boot the first partition on the
local disk.

Re: SYSLINUX Digest, Vol 33, menu.c32 chaining
...p loader which works on the floppyless platforms. But I also need to load a BartPE and the other BS loader does not support that. So I tried to use menu.c32 but did not succeed.

change tftpserver via pxelinux.cfg?
Hello!
Usually pxelinux loads everything from the same tftpserver.
Is there a way to load kernel_A from tftpserver_A and kernel_B from
tftpserver_B?
Thanks.

chain.c32 does not work (for me?)
Hello!
I am trying to boot from the MBR of my hard disk using PXELinux.
here is the (relevant) part of my pxelinux.cfg/default
LABEL harddisk
KERNEL chain.c32
append hd0
All I get is a single dot and then the boot process stops.
What am I doing wrong?

PXELinux, chain.c32 and my 3com NIC
Hello!
I use the latest version (3.0.8pre5) of PXELinux, menu.c32 and chain.c32
Everything worked fine with my test-PC (when WinME was installed on the
hard disk): There is a working menu item for hard disk boot (chain.c32 hd0).
I have deleted the partition table and installed W2k (NTFS): now hard
disk boot no longer works if I use PXELinux. :-(
First I thought that there is something wrong

adding syslinux mailing list to gmane.org
Hello!
I would like to add the syslinux mailing list to gmane.org so I can read
it with my newsreader (I think it is more convenient).
Is that ok?
For more information go to http://www.gmane.org/

3.10pre8 & ipod shuffle
Hello!
I own an Ipod shuffle (512MB) and I am having trouble booting from it
using syslinux 3.10pre8 (I have not tested older versions).
I guess the Ipod shuffle works just like an ordinary USB key with a
FAT32 partition so I have read http://syslinux.zytor.com/usbkey.php.
My BIOS identifies it as a hard disk, so I hope I do not have to modify
the geometry. Windows assigns the drive letter

[3.20pre4] cannot build menu.c32
Hi!
I have just tried to build menu.c32 but it fails.
3.20pre3 works fine though.
Here is what happens:
bash-3.1$ make
gcc -m32 -mregparm=3 -DREGPARM=3 -W -Wall -march=i386 -Os
-fomit-frame-pointer -I../libutil/include -I../include -D__COM32__ -c
-o menu.o menu.c

app_read does not seem to work with SIP early media (it answers the channel)
Hello!
I am trying to come up with a way to read a digit *before* the call is
answered. My Asterisk version is 1.6.2.0-rc6
SIP early media works fine (I can receive and transmit audio before the
call is answered), but as soon as I start the read application, Asterisk
answers the call which is not what I want.
Here is how to reproduce the problem: send incoming calls from a SIP
provider that

ethersel.c32 issues
Hello!
ethersel.c32 does not seem to work with all PCs. I have prepared a
floppy that uses ethersel.c32 to load a NIC-specific file (etherboot
.zlilo image). See http://etherboot.anadex.de for details.
It works with every NIC and every PC I own, but not with VMWare. I know
VMWare has some problems, so that did not bother me at all and I
published it anyway but I have received several e-mails

memdisk: DOS as a PreOS
Hello!
Is it possible to load a virtual DOS Floppy with memdisk to do a few
things (e.g. scan for viruses, copy a hard disk image from the network
to the local disk) and continue booting from the local hard disk without
a reboot?

pxelinux feature request
Hello!
I have outlined a proposal for a new feature of pxelinux in
http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/syslinux/2004-December/004360.html (see
the last couple of sentences) but nobody has commented it, so I am
asking again:
Imagine a company with a lot of departments and where network booting is
widely used. Each department has different needs when it comes to
operating systems.
Because things
