read permission on rotated logs
When logs (e.g. /var/log/maillog) are rotated (e.g. to
/var/log/maillog-YYYYMDD) is there a way via systemd or whatever to
assign read permission to a specific group?
Right now, for example -
ls -l maillog*
-rw------- 1 root root 3105240 Mar 13 22:04 maillog
-rw------- 1 root root 1079031 Feb 24 04:39 maillog-20190224

sendmail maillog rotation on centos 4
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out which process is rotating my maillog every
Sunday at 4:03 am. This happens on all of my centos 4 boxes.
AFAICT, logrotate is not running. This is from a fairly minimal
install, so I'm assuming this is a default process.

Index cache errors worse with 2.2.x
Hi!
I am getting "Cached message size smaller than expected" errors since dovecot-2.1.x.
Until now, I thought that those errors don't do any harm, I assumed that the cache will just be rebuilt after the error had been detected.
However, since dovecot 2.2.x (I tried 2.2.7 and 2.2.10), the errors sometimes seem to actually cause mail access to fail.
With dovecot-2.1.1, only the

Are you sure about maillog? I mean:
doveadm log find
gives you that file?

How to detect out-of-sync condition
I looked in the place where dovecot logs everything ... the maillog.
I didn't see anything but the log is huge and I could have easily missed it.
Is there a certain error or phrase I should look for?
If so please advise.

dovecot logs to audit.log not to maillog
Hello,
I have a curious phenomenon.
Dovecot logs normally to /var/log/maillog.
If I restart my server, dovecot loggs to /var/log/audit/audit.log.
If I restart dovecot, dovecot loggs to /var/log/maillog again.
And I think, wenn logrotate is restarting, dovecot logs to audit.log.
But I don't know why.
Any Ideas?
greetings Ralf

read permission on rotated logs
Maybe I'm missing something here but doesn't logrotate have the 'postrotate ... endscript' block for its configuration files where you can run any command you desire?

postfix - killed by signal 11 - debug help
Any suggestions to help me troubleshoot a "killed by signal 11" problem
with Postfix? I've Googled and fiddled, but cannot figure it out. I
have no idea where to look/start.
Based on this post, Wietse suggests this type of problem happens when
there compiled with different libraries. I tried ldd on various
programs and found they all seemed to line up, but I know little.

sendmail and rbl blocking - generating statistics
I have enabled the feature in sendmail.mc to check with spamhaus for
spammers. However since this block is being made at MTA level, I would
like to know is something can be done to obtain statistics of blocked
attemps.
thanks

rsyslog.conf - why the "-" in this entry? mail.* -/var/log/maillog
In dealing with an unrelated issue I came across this in rsyslog.conf.
# The authpriv file has restricted access.
authpriv.* /var/log/secure
# Log all the mail messages in one place.
mail.* -/var/log/maillog
# Log cron stuff
cron.* /var/log/cron

[Fwd: Re: dovecot logs to audit.log not to maillog]
Hello,
now I have done this:
under http://wiki.dovecot.org/Logging?highlight=(logging)
Rotating Logs
is the following string
-----------------------
/bin/kill -USR1 `cat /var/run/dovecot/master.pid 2>/dev/null` 2>
/dev/null || true
------------------------
This string I have insert in
/etc/logrotate.d/syslog under the lines:
postrotate
/bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslogd.pid

Non-Existent Log File
My /var/log/maillog was getting pretty big because of lots of testing
and re-configuring I've been doing lately with both Dovecot and
Postfix. I figured just remove /var/log/maillog and it would be
re-created. It wasn't--not by Dovecot, not by Postfix. I had to
manually create a new one, put one character in it, save it, properly
secure it with chmod, and then Dovecot (and postfix)

logrotate /var/log/maillog
Hi,
I want to create a new log /var/log/maillog for postfix each day and so
i created a new logrotate config for the log and removed it from
/etc/logrotate.d/syslog.
~]# cat /etc/logrotate.d/maillog
/var/log/maillog {
daily
rotate 31
start 1
compress
create 0600 root
postrotate
/etc/init.d/postfix reload > /dev/null
endscript

Dbox lost messages
Hello,
I use dovecot with dbox storage system.
Today I receive 2 mail (I see that in the maillog ) but I don't find in
INBOX using my IMAP client.
I look in the files m.* and I find the message that I receive. But I
cannot find it in any IMAP folder.
I try to run "doveadm force-resync -u user inbox" but nothing change.
I export all email using the command "doveadm
