Dovecot on different server than MTA
Hi, I'm setting up our new mail system using dovecot as mailbox server. As our goal is to have many many small redundant (virtual) servers as components, for example a mailhub (just relaying mail) and a frontend smtp server (just accepting or denying mail in the first place and then forwarding it to the mailhub), etc. I want to run Dovecot on a different server than the main MTAs. The mailbox server is the only service that cannot be made redundant in an easy way (the se...

Hello I've googled around to tune a bit my mailhub ( AMD64 FreeBSD 8.1, 12 Gb RAM, 2 Tb raid5 disks , ~4000 mailboxes unix users ) but I am a bit confused, All my clients use thunderbird as MUA ( IMAP, IMAPS ) to connect to the mailhub no direct access to the machine. Any of you guys has some pointer to give ? thanks a lot

Migration to Dovecot
Hello all Tomorrow is the day , I'm gonna migrate all our mailboxes and imap folders from our old mailhub to the new one. In the same time I will migrate from UW to Dovecot , I've read all the stuff about it on the Dovecot web site. I have one question , do I have to care about the .imap cache directory created by Dovecot in any way or will it be "all automatic" when starting Dovecot ?...

Hello I use real unix users on the mailhub and I would like to automate home directories creation for new users. I found lda_mailbox_autocreate and lda_mailbox_autosubscribe statements in 15-lda.conf file ( dovecot 2.0.11 ) which seem to be the right things for me :-) I use Postfix 2.8.1 with Dovecot LDA mailbox_command = /usr/local/libe...

IMAP subfolders and MDBOX

My problem is to choose the format that will permit imap subfolders creation. Maildir is not my favorite format and I wonder about MDBOX. Does it permit imap subfolders...

New Program: Abacus Sentry - Port Scan Detector

The program, called Abacus Sentry, is a port scan/probe detector that offers what I think are a number of unique and useful features: - Runs on TCP or UDP sockets. Configurable by the user to bind to multiples of sockets for increased detection coverage. - Adjustable scan detection value with

I have been hunting around for such a tool and so far not seeing anything obvious as i dont want to reinvent the wheel if

quick FW question
I hope this isn't too off topic, but I'd like a quick solution to a problem. I have a small network behind a NAT firewall (FreeBSD of course) and I'd like to block/redirect all traffic from the internal network to the local mail server (same box as firewall) in order to prevent direct smtp requests to the outside world (mainly virus/trokan programs). I think I have it right in this
