.mailboxlist -> .subscriptions
I've mostly finished a conversion from an old Centos 3 UW-Imap server to a new Centos 6 dovecot server. I did not copy the old ~/.mailboxlist file to ~/mail/.subscriptions file, but notice some users have the latter file now. These are all mbox folders on the old and new server. I'm getting ready to do the same to another old/new pair of servers and I'm wondering if there is an advantage of doing the copy. I'm assuming t...

Dovecot losing .mailboxlist files
...directories with mbox mailboxes shared with NFS. Indexes are kept separately in both server, on local disks, both servers are serving imap (from NFS mboxes). We are trying to convert from uw-imap to dovecot. Servers are currently running on their limits and now i have mysterious problems with .mailboxlist file: i patched dovecot to use .mailboxlist file instead of .subscriptions, but sometimes the .mailboxlist file disappears on some users. Instead there are appearing .nfsXXXXXX files, where XXXXXX is combination of numbers and capital letters. Also some users have problems with subscribing to fo...

Subscription file
...ackground: We are a UW-IMAP shop, using mbox format. (!) We are in the process of upgrading to Dovecot, hopefully to 1.0 proper. :) One of the modifications we have been using in test versions of Dovecot involve the move of the user subscription file from: IMAP-root/.subscriptions to: $HOME/.mailboxlist Rather than having to make changes to Dovecot source code each time a new release comes out, it would seem to make sense to have a way to configure this from dovecot.conf. Something like: # Default (%i denotes IMAP root): #imap_subscription_file = %i/.subscriptions # UW-imap-style (%h denote...

subscriptions vs mailboxlist
Is there a way to change the name of the .subscriptions file that dovecot looks for to .mailboxlist to be compatible with WU-IMAP? It would be handy for testing and conversion if you had that. BTW - I'm a new user and your software is very well designed. -- Marc Perkel - marc at perkel.com Spam Filter: http://www.junkemailfilter.com My Blog: http://marc.perkel.com

IMAP Folder paths
Hello, we like to use dovecot, but our old imapd used to store the paths of the folder in the file ~/.mailboxlist. This file contains something like this: mail/read mail/dovecot .netscape/imap/mailbox .Mail/foo Each line with a path to one mbox folder. And please pay attention that there is no path to the inbox, because this is stored on the server... Is there a way to use this files with dov...

Question re: .mailboxlist to .subscriptions migration
Hello. I'm in the final stages of installing Dovecot on a new server, and then will be migrating user mailboxes from an older server that was using UW-IMAP. I realize that I will have to rename the ".mailboxlist" file to ".subscriptions". But, I have a question about the "mail/" directory part that appears for most mailboxes in each users .mailboxlist file: since I'm configuring my Dovecot to use multiple hidden namespaces (one of which will include "mail/"), do...

.mailboxlist location
Greetings. On our 1.2.9 setup, we are finding that .mailboxlist (we recompiled to use this name rather than .subscriptions) ends up in the user's ~/mail folder. We'd like this file to be stored in ~/ instead. Is this possible without changing namespaces (for UW compatibility) and/or userdb mail location? Thanks! -- Dave Brenner - david at toled...

Wiki relating to subscriptions
On this wiki page http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/UW appears this information: "It's possible to keep using the .mailboxlist}} filename (as long as it's in the same directory) by modifying {{{SUBSCRIPTION_FILE_NAME define in src/lib-storage/index/mbox/mbox-storage.h" However, if a user wanted to continue using .mailboxlist wouldn't they also have to change the same define in src/lib-storage/index/ ma...

Migrating from UW-IMAP
...ail/chandler. The sub-mailboxes are in the user home directories, just scattered around-- no /mail subdirectory or anything close. So there's a folder called ~chandler/INBOX.Sent, ~chandler/INBOX.Trash, and a ~chandler/Dovecot (for this list). The list of these files is kept in ~chandler/.mailboxlist. I attempted to follow the instructions at http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration about: You can either rename your .mailboxlist file to .subscriptions for all your users using uw2dovecot.sh <http://wiki.dovecot.org/uw2dovecot.sh>, or change the definition of SUBSCRIPTION_FILE_NAME in /src/l...

MBOX to MAILDIR conversion
Thinking about going from mbox to maildir. Started with mbox way back when but thinking about making the conversion. The main reason is that I use rsync for backups and when these huge mailboxes are touched I have to copy the whole thing. With maildir I only copy the files that change. So - my questions is - what's the easiest way to make this happan. I assume there are conversion

Namespaces and subscriptions
I've got a problem with subscriptions in 1.0-stable when migrating from UW-IMAP. I've modified the SUBSCRIPTION_FILE_NAME entries as suggested in the Wiki http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration and included the "~/mail/" etc. hidden namespaces. The .mailboxlist files contain entries like "~/mail/somefolder" and the clients have "~/mail/" set as a prefix. In UW-IMAP: xyz LSUB "" "*" * LSUB () "/" ~/mail/somefolder xyz LSUB "~/mail/" "*" * LSUB () "/" ~/mail/somefolder Now w...

upgrade from version 1.0.3 to version 1.0.7
...ld dovecot version and start the new, I get an empty mailbox when logging into mail. My current config for dovecot.conf on version 1.0.3 has this for my mailbox location:mail_location = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u I went from uw-imap to dovecot some months ago and necessary changes to the .mailboxlist to .subscriptions. UW-IMAP to Dovecot conversion - How to migrate the folders?
...n.txt http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Convert http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2007-June/023757.html What would be the suggested method to convert them? So far I understand that I need to somehow populate the /home/USERNAME/Maildir/subscriptions file with the items located in /home/USERNAME/.mailboxlist and then I don't know what to do from there. I don't know if I need to incorporate a Dovecot plugin, or if there is a script I can run to do this for me. Since this is a live server, I would prefer to test on a single account before I run a plugin that would effect all users globally....

It /should/ create INBOX/TEST -- but doveadm always says it's "Invalid JSON input". What am I doing wrong?...

Migrating subscription lists
...th folders in it. Plus our users are not, as a rule, power/geek user that would understand even making subdirs in ~mail, so I don't know how this would have come to pass. Should this be? Or am I misunderstanding things? 2) Some people are consciously or unconsciously using the UWIMAP .mailboxlist subscription file as it is meant to be used, namely to *restrict* the folders shown. If/when I generated the Dovecot .subsbcriptions file by just doing an ls -1 of their mail directory, they will be surprised to see stuff not previously displayed....that they may very well not know they'...

folder subscriptions
Hi, I've got a lot of users using uw-imapd(yah, yah, I know) I'd like to get them off of that and onto dovecot at some point in the indeterminate future. so excluding bizarre path resolution things that uw-imapd has left around. is it more or less cp ~/mailboxlist ~/mail/subscriptions? It looks like that - but I wanted to verify :) thanks -sv

Setting IMAP root as user's home directory. How?
I'm trying to set up dovecot to use /home/username as IMAP root, but it keeps creating /home/username/mail. I need /home/username in order to migrate with the least changes from uw-imap, just by copying .mailboxlist without the INBOX line in it into .subscriptions I tried each of these, one at a time: default_mail_env = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u default_mail_env = mbox:%h/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u default_mail_env = mbox:/home/%u/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u In each case, dovecot was stubornly creating /home/username/mai...

Is there a trick to make sure dsync only use valid mailboxes? Questions still about a uw-imap -> dovecot conversion
The more I read about all of this, the more I'm thinking about moving to maildir format. My switchover this weekend is full of holes due to the way user's imap folders were laid out. Some had folders in their home directory and others might have folders in their /home/mail directory. Some how, Horde/Imp seemed to keep track of it. Dovecot is not doing so well. I've been reading
