mail_save_crlf Semantics
Hi, It's not clear from the configuration when CR/LF conversion happens with mail_save_crlf set. Does this only happen with appends, or do all mails handled by Dovecot always get converted when opened? Migrating from Cyrus to Dovecot
...eferred? Or what the benefits are? D) Converting between CRLF and LF If I understand correctly, Dovecot stores emails with LF only. We have all emails with CRLF now on Cyrus and converting them to LF only is a little more time consuming. Is there any benefit to do that? Or can we live with 'mail_save_crlf' without problems? E) POP3 backend I found many informations about IMAP internals but few on POP3 internals. What do I need to do POP3 migration transparent for user? Many thanks for any answers. Regards, Milo

piegonhole sieve prepending header lines with an extra space
...Unfortunately this break gmail, yahoo, and most other email programs. I am using pigeonhole 0.4.0-14 with Dovecot 2.2.4.3; I see change 1781:e439789e3211 but it appears to only change how the X-Sieve header is generated. I only have the one dovecot instance but I will note that the setting 'mail_save_crlf = yes' is specified. Thanks, Anand

Messages does not appear in OE6
Hi List! I have an issue with dovecot: Outlook express users sometimes can't see some emails (they are not even listed) that can be seen with other IMAP clients, I tested it (and it works) with Evolution, Outlook and SquirrelMail (a web mail). Please note that this is not the client bug reported at http://dovecot.org/clients.html with the message: "Message is no longer available on

Migrating from Cyrus to Dovecot
...so depends on other things. > D) Converting between CRLF and LF > If I understand correctly, Dovecot stores emails with LF only. We have all emails with CRLF now on Cyrus and converting them to LF only is a little more time consuming. Is there any benefit to do that? Or can we live with 'mail_save_crlf' without problems? Dovecot can automatically handle both mixed CRLF and LF mails, you can keep old mails as CRLF and new mails as LF. mail_save_crlf setting only controls what is used for new emails. If you want to save more disk space you can enable compression. > E) POP3 backend > I f...

Message parser loops on certain messages (e.g. with a trailing CR character)
Hi, dovecot's message parser enters an endless loop when fed with certain multipart messages with stray CR characters. parse_next_body_to_boundary() assumes the '\r' might be the beginning of a boundary line, reducing the block size by one: src/lib-mail/message-parser.c: 404 /* no linefeeds in this block. we can just skip it. */ 405 ret = 0; 406

http://dovecot.org/test/ - Fixed APPEND hanging in some situations. Didn't happen with mail_save_crlf=yes. - Added pop3_uidl_format setting. No need to patch sources anymore if you don't want the default. Does anyone want pop3_uidl_xuidl_header yes/no setting, with fallbacking to pop3_uidl_format if X-UIDL header isn't found? Shouldn't be difficult to do.. - Added mbox_very_dirty...

1.0 roadmap
...this? See http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2005-June/007497.html and the rest of the thread. Basically put thousands of messages into mailbox, start downloading them and see if error comes. - Solaris sendfile is broken? Is it? Can someone try? You can test it with maildir by setting mail_save_crlf=yes, saving a somewhat large mail and FETCHing it (and truss that it really uses sendfile) - passdb passwd + passdb shadow -> passdb_password isn't reset to NULL (ie. probably doesn't allow logging in if the shadow password is correct?) - maildir: rename foo foo.xyz -> infin...

\0\n at end of lines
...ce upgrading to -test11, mail fetched from imap has every line terminated with a nul and a newline ("\0\n"). This also happens with -test12. It seems to happen with both mbox and maildir. I'm running on NetBSD/sparc (NetBSD-current as of April 1, 1.6Q). If it matters, I have "mail_save_crlf" set to "no" and "mail_read_mmaped" also set to "no". I can't find any other options that look like they could be relevant. Any ideas? Thanks, mike

dovecot crash on sendfilev64 on solaris 8 (32bit) (WORKAROUND)
Hi, related to my previous email i found that setting "mail_save_crlf = no" instead of yes make dovecot working. However if enabled on solaris 8 it doesn't work hanging on sendfilev64() call. I noticed that maildir file names are still different from maildrop and dovecot but now works. However moving bigger mailbox from local storage to remote imap server...

Inconsistent handling of CRLF in APPEND
One of the recent 1.0 commits relating to CRLF handling (maybe 2006-06-24) has changed the behaviour of APPEND when using mbox files with ordinary plain text emails. When a client stores a new message using an APPEND command (eg. saving a draft or copy of a sent message), it uses CRLF consistently as a line-ending throughout the literal data block over the wire - both for the header and the
