Options mail_nfs_storage and mail_nfs_index not in 2.2(.13) example config anymore?
Hey dovecot-users, did I miss anything anywhere about the configuration variables "nfs_storage" and "mail_nfs_index" being removed from the example configuration in 2.2? In 2.1 they where both in 10-mail.conf commented out and set to their default "no". But with 2.2 they are not in any of the exmaple config files anymore. doveadm is still showing the variables and

Dovecot tuning for GFS2
Hello, I'm deploing a new email cluster using Dovecot over GFS2. Actually I'm using courier over GFS. Actually I'm testing Dovecot with these parameters: mmap_disable = yes mail_fsync = always mail_nfs_storage = yes mail_nfs_index = yes lock_method = fcntl Are they correct? RedHat GFS support mmap, so is it better to enable it or leave it disabled? The documentation suggest the use of flock. What about it? Thanks, Andrea -- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Don'...

nfs flush/fsync config settings problem
Hi, I need to place a maildir storage on a NFS filesystem, so I set up the config like this: mmap_disable = yes mail_nfs_storage = yes mail_nfs_index = yes mail_fsync = always lock_method = dotlock (also tried fcntl - local lockd is running, no success, now using dotlock, to be sure while debugging) The problem is that Dovecot (2.2.9/2.2.10 - the relevant code in mail-index.c is the same) logs a fatal error and quits the s...

fs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir: rmdir(/var/mail) AGAIN
...usy I know this error message has been around a long time. Should we still be seeing it on 2.0.12 with a local /var/mail. Perhaps the message is misleading and really complaining about folders other than INBOX that are NFS mounted. Our config has dovecot.conf:mail_nfs_index = no dovecot.conf:mail_nfs_storage = yes is that correct given the above? Also, does the flush error messages have any real consequences? My understanding is that the rmdir is meant to fail, just to force a flush.

Unlock non existent locks
Hello Timo, I'm running a single instance of dovecot-2.1.15 on a single host running 8.3-RELEASE-p3 FreeBSD amd64 mailboxes (Maildir), control files and indexes are on NFS (v3,tcp) mail_nfs_storage = yes lock_method = fcntl [didn't touch the following] # Mail index files also exist in NFS. Setting this to yes requires # mmap_disable=yes and fsync_disable=no. mail_nfs_index = yes served by an Isilon s200 node (OneFS 6.5.5.22) procmail delivers in the same loc...

NFS mail storage
The parameters listed for nfs installations (mmap_disable, doctlock_use_excl, mail_nfs_storage, mail_nfs_index) - are they necessary for data integrity, and/or do they compensate for NFS latency and improve performance? My understanding is the indexes are a critical part of a dbox storage, but on the other hand having local indexes is a major performance consideration. Is maildir a &q...

...t you need it if you have your index files stored in nfs. I have it stored locally. Do I need mmap_disable=yes? What it's the best? * dotlock_use_excl: it is set to no in both configurations, but the comment says that it is needed only in nfsv2. Since I have nfs3, I have it set it to yes. * mail_nfs_storage: In single server is set to no, but in multi server it set to yes. Since I have a director in front of my backend server, what is the recommended? With this configuration, when I have a few connections (about 300-400 imap connections) everything is working fine, but when I disconnect the old...

GFS2 writes extremely slow
Hello all, We are facing extremely slow GFS2 issues in Redhat 7 64 bit. Backend is 16 Gbps FC SAN so no issues there. I have scoured the entire (anyways most of the) Internet and arrived at the following settings. mmap_disable = yes mail_fsync = always mail_nfs_storage = yes mail_nfs_index = yes mmap_disable = yes lock_method = fcntl Did a systemctl restart dovecot and did not find any major improvement. Can you please help. Regards Durga Prasad --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

Maildir on NFS - attribute caching question
Hi Timo, We've been running Dovecot with Maildir on NFS for quite a while - since back in the 1.0 days I believe. I'm somewhat new here. Anyway... The Wiki article on NFS states that 1.1 and newer will flush attribute caches if necessary with mail_nfs_storage=yes. We're running 1.2.8 with that set, as well as mail_nfs_index=yes, mmap_disable=yes and fsync_disable=no. We have a pool of POP/IMAP and SMTP machines that are accessing the maildirs, and can't guarantee any sort of user session affinity to a particular host. We also mount our NFS sh...

...or so for different users. /maildir is a NFS mount, and I'm suspecting it's the NFS server being busy and dovecot having to wait. Other than replacing the NFS server with faster hardware is there anything else we can do? Indexes are local, and Maildir is on the NFS. Dovecot 1.2.5 using: mail_nfs_storage = yes mmap_disable = no NFS mounted as; /maildir on /.automount/a.diskless/root/mail type nfs (nosuid,nodev,noatime,vers=3,proto=tcp) TIA -- Andrew
