Using mail_chroot and default_mail_env
Settings for mail_chroot and default_mail_env are not playing well together.
It seems that default_mail_env is verified to exist *before* the chroot
but is later used *after* the chroot.
A configuration like this:
* mail_chroot = /var/mail/example.com/username
* default_mail_env = maildir:/Maildir

mail_chroot problems / dovecot 1.1rc4
Hello
I've noticed a little strange behaviour of that option. For example with
following settings:
system user: admin, with its home directory as /home/admin
dovecot options: as reported by dovecot -n (in attachment)
dovecot will try to chroot into /home/home/admin with the following
message in logs, in my case:
Fatal: chdir(/home/home/admin) failed with uid 1999: No such file or

mail_chroot: no variables support?
Hello dovecot,
It seems, that mail_chroot setting can't use variables. I try to set it to `%h' and it deosn't work :(
Are here any security considerations, or it is bug?

Questions about mail process chroots
Greetings,
I am configuring a new Dovecot installation, and the way the
valid_chroot_dirs and mail_chroot variables affect the mail processes are a
bit unclear to me. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with more
specific details than the comments in the configuration file do, or maybe
even recommend some values given my configuration.

LDA and chroot
Hi,
I'd like to ask: is it possible to use Dovecot's LDA with mail_chroot
variable set,
e.g. "mail_chroot = /serv/storage19/vmail"?
Without "mail_chroot" set all works fine.
If mail_chroot is set and user database contains relative paths to home
directory (without chroot part like
"domain.net/user") deliver ignores this and tries to work at...

Dovecot 1.1.10 and chroot
As it's been a while since I upgraded (1.1rc10, jump to 1.1.10), this
might be present in earlier versions as well.
Anyway, if one enables mail_chroot in global config file, dovecot will
try to access /tmp there. Per-user overrides behave correctly.
For example, with:
mail_chroot=/home/vmail
dovecot will abort with:
Fatal: chdir(/home/vmail/tmp) failed with uid 65534: No such file or
directory
Error: imap dump-capability process returned 8...

deliver failing to execute sendmail (sieve)
I have apparently done something to mess up my test installation, as
deliver's attempts to send messages now fail with the following error:
deliver(user at example.com): execv() failed: No such file or directory
In these cases, I have sieve rules trying to send messages. It had been
working though, and I've tried going through all the changes I made

as SMS-URI and XMPP methods are not included in cyrus sieve version, they are not available in dovecots plugin too.
[any ideas, sample code how to implement them?]
BUT... WARNING
All this will not work if you have "mail_chroot" setting enabled in dovecot.conf; chrooted process can't access required external binaries.
DOT USE THIS PLUGIN WITH "mail_chroot" SENTIG ENABLED!
Actualy it is not sieve plugin problem only - its LDA problem... it can't send bonce messages, do forwards etc.

Chroot
Hello,
I have successfully setup dovecot with chroot but there are two things yet
1. submission_host problem (I posted message 2 days ago)
2. Problem with acl's and sharing:
all maildirs are located in: /var/mail/jdoe at example.com/Maildir
so:
mail_chroot=/var/mail
I setup acls with:
10-mail.conf
...
namespace {
type = private
separator = /
prefix =.
inbox = yes
hidden = no
list = yes
subscriptions = yes
}
namespace {

to no avail, is my sql wrong or can you not cat the homedir and maildir
fields together to create the complete path to home?
. i got around the homedir problem by setting
mail_chroot = /var/spool/postfix/virtuals (is this the general way, only
way?)
and then in my dovecot-mysql.conf i have user_query = SELECT Maildir AS
home, VUID AS uid , VGID AS gid FROM users WHERE Email_address = '%u'
This almost worked but as i was watching the logs it was looking for

+ Added %D modified to return "sub.domain.org" as
"sub,dc=domain,dc=org" (for LDAP queries). Patch by Andrey Panin.
- rc9 broke cache files in 64bit systems
- deliver works now with mail_chroot
- auth cache didn't work properly with multiple passdbs
- Fixes to handling CRLF linefeeds in mboxes.

dovecot-pigeonhole running external script ends with signal 11
Hi Aki
yes I built dovecot and pigeonhole rpms in the same rpmbuild. pigeonhole
rpm is based on 0.4.14
Do you think that the error might come from self building the rpms?
