mail-migration with dovadm sync/backup and mail_attachment_dir
I need to run a mail-migration from a Dovecot with mail_attachment_dir /
single instance storage enabled.
As mailboxes and mail_attachment_dir are rsynced I would normally run a
doveadm backup -u <user> -R -d dbox:<path to rsynced mailbox>/dbox
How can I tell it the mail_attachment_dir the rsynced source / (reverse)
destination uses?
Or do I have to st...

mdbox with mail_attachment_dir per user in 2.2.12
Hello,
we have 2 netapp arrays with 2 volumes and we need to store our mail
data in one or other volume for every user.
We want keep data for one user in one volume only.
So we would like to have 2 separate mail_attachment_dir, one on every
volume.
But in latest version 2.2.12 it look like it is only possible to set
one global mail_attachment_dir.
I have an idea with 2 separate dovecot instances per machine with
different mail_attachment_dir. Or it is possible to somehow specify it
per user ?
Thanks

Trying to delete user mailbox directory (rm) and do the command :

Problems with compressed mail_attachment_dir
Hi there !
I?m using dovecot 2.3.10 (manually compiled on Centos 8 x86_64 - fully
updated), XFS filesystem, with mdbox and a separated compressed attachment
directory:
mail_attachment_fs = sis compress:lz4:6:posix
mail_attachment_hash = %{sha256}
mail_attachment_dir = /ATTACHMENTS
I'm using dovecot LDA (for mail delivery). Everything works fine with the
delivery and compression. The first test, I send one tar file with 7Mb. It
was correctly compressed (2791959) and stored in mail_attachment_dir. But
when I tried to access it via IMAP ( thunderbird/evoluti...

You should always expunge mailbox *before* deleting it, if you are using SIS.

Multiuser attachment storage (mail_attachment_dir)
Was trying to set up attachment storage, but folders are receiving permission only for current user, so if another user is receiving a mail with same attachment he is getting permission denied error on reading hash file. Is it possible to setup global attachment storage to work with all users, at least in domain? mail_access_groups won't help, as folders are given 0 group permission. Umask and

Specifying other mail_attachment_dir for namespace
Hello,
I have a Dovecot setup where I need to allow users to access a snapshot
of their messages (when they complain about missing messages/folders
deleted by mistake).
From time to time the system does a LVM snapshot of the volume holding
the mailboxes and sis storage and that messages are available via a
"special" namespace.
The problem is the messages that references

Problems setting up SIS (duplicate files with same hash)
...o that all my different users can share the same pool
of attachments?
Alternatively, is it possible to have dovecot save the attachment under
more flexible permissions so that they can be shared between users?
This would allow us to save alot of disk space.
*Here is the SIS config I am using:*
mail_attachment_dir = /data/emails/attachments
#mail_attachment_min_size = 128k
#mail_attachment_fs = sis posix
#mail_attachment_hash = %{sha1}
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,

permissions for dbox attachment directory
I am running dovecot 2.0.13 on CentOS5, set up with only local system
users, and single instance store set up in a single directory.
e.g.
mail_attachment_dir = /var/mail/attachments
I get errors when importing mail to IMAP because the attachment
directories are owned by the respective mail account user(s) and so cannot
be accessed or written to by other users.
Are there some user id setting I need to change, or do I have to run
dovecot with virtual u...

Single instance storage
...tance storage feature, so I'm posting my questions
here.
- Are these 3 parameters the only one necessary for single instance
storage? I cannot find any doc on this feature on the website; is there
anything specific I need to know about them? (the last one isn't exactly
self-explanatory).
- mail_attachment_dir = /srv/vmail/attachments
- mail_attachment_hash = %{sha256}
- mail_cache_min_mail_count = 2
- Is this feature ready for production?
Thanks,

Attachments not removed from single store
Hi.
Well, I've the next problem.
I turned on the new attachment de-duplication stuff in the
configuration. If I send an attchment between two accounts on my test
system, the attment gets saved ion the configured mail_attachment_dir.
But... if I delete it from the senders Send folder and the receivers
Inbox (and of course empty Trash afterwards in both cases), the hashes
and the attachment are not deleted in mail_attachment_dir (as I would
expect).
Is this a bug, or have I misunderstood the concept of storing attachments?

Wish list item: %g/%{gid} variable
I think it would be very useful to have a user's GID in a variable.
So i could use for example: mail_attachment_dir = /srv/mail/.SiS/%{gid}
I use one GID per domain and the aliases fqhns of the domain. When for
example example.com would be an alias for exmaple.net (gid: 12345), the
attachments would be stored inside /srv/mail/.SiS/12345/, no matter if a
message was sent to john.doe at example.com or to john.doe...

Stability of extraction of attachment
Hello,
We are migrating our dovecot servers from 2.1.9 to 2.1.15 (or 2.2 if
there is a stable version soon) and maildir format to mdbox.
Looking for mdbox options I have found options:
* mail_attachment_dir
* mail_attachement_min_size
* mail_attachment_fs
* mail_attachment_hash
but this options are described with the message:
# WARNING: This feature hasn't been tested much yet. Use at your own risk.
What is the state of these options? Could I use it in a production
environment? In case of ye...

Enabling SIS (single instance storage)
Ok, didn't find much on this...
The bottom of /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf has the following settings:
#mail_attachment_dir =
#mail_attachment_min_size = 128k
#mail_attachment_fs = sis posix
#mail_attachment_hash = %{sha1}
all of which are apparently the defaults according to doveconf -d output
- so no need to set them explicitly, unless I want to change them, right?
So, enable the first one - but - the comments don&...
