Maidir layout : why and how ?
Hello Timo,
I've been using dovecot from many years now using Maildir mailbox format with
default layout (Maildir++, everthing in a single directory).
What would be the reason(s) to convert to Layout=fs ? I can only think of one :
to allow dots in mailbox names. And even in that case, I guess I still have the
option to use the litescape plugin.
Besides, how would one process to do the

BUG (and suggested fix) in maildir code
Hi all
I'm using dovecot 1.0.rc15 to serve a maildir by IMAP.
I have an IMAP subdirectory called subscriptions. The messages are in
maidir/.subscriptions/cur/ etc.
Dovecot is renaming the directory .subscriptions/ to subscriptions/
This means that when my IMAP client requests this directory, it gets the
message "no such directory", and dovecot also gives the error message:
dovecot: IMAP(tcv): read() failed with subscripti...

ACL plugin when file in Maildir is not a directory
Hello Timo,
On a production (by that I mean many users) dovecot-1.1.8/Maidir server where
ACL plugin has been enabled, I ran on a log verbosity problem :
For some reason (in fact, due to mbox -> Maildir migration script), some people
have in their Maildir a .procmail.logfile file.
The problem is that dovecot (or the ACL plugin) wants to find a dovecot-acl
file in what...

Getting maildir++ quotas working
....
These are the settings I have... am I missing something?
protocol imap {
mail_plugins = imap_quota quota
mail_plugin_dir = /usr/lib/dovecot/imap
}
plugin {
quota = maildir
imap_quota = maildir
}
Here are some more details:
Dovecot is creating the maildirsize file in my maidir, and it seems to
show correct storage used calculations, but the first line which should
contain my storage limits is blank. So I suspect that I am not returning
a valid quota value from the user database. I am returning what my old
Courier-IMAP wants to see "1073741824S,4000C"... if th...

messages_count too large errors (1.0RC5)
Hi,
Just today, Thunderbird started throwing errors when accessing a particular
mail folder. Looking in the logs showed this:
dovecot: Aug 09 15:36:31 Error: IMAP(nmenere): Corrupted index file /imap/mailboxes/nmenere/shared-settings/jira-support/index/.INBOX.Triaged/dovecot.index: messages_count too large (51 > 39)
This is a new user's first attempt to access a shared jira-support/

Post-login script with LDAP virtual users
...postfixdata/%u/Maildir, and is owned by linux
local user "mailuser".
Dovecot works perfect ,if post-login script configuration is commented out.
Environment:
Dovecot: dovecot-2.0.9 (built from source tar ball)
OS: Linux / 2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.x86_64 (Virtual machine on a xen server)

client: Using telnet on pop3 TCP port.
All the pop3 users are virtual and does not have local login account

SMTP service is managed by Postfix: ( A single local login account...

Maildir dirty syncs
http://dovecot.org/patches/1.1/maildir-dirty-syncs.diff
This patch adds a new maildir_very_dirty_syncs setting. If set to "yes",
Dovecot assumes it's the only one changing the cur/ directory (so other
MDAs can add mails to new/ without problems). This makes it possible to
avoid rescanning the cur/ directory all the time looking for filenames.
It also looks like (in stress testing)

Dovecot 1.2.12+Postfix+Active Directory: virtual domain name dropped.
...home directory or
maildir.
I found a bug report in the mailing list that looks like it might be the same
problem (%d not supported in user_attrs), but the fix it references is for
2.0.
Is this a known problem in 1.x? Is there a fix/workaround for it? E.g.,
could I have Postfix generate the maidir path and pass it to deliver as
the "-m" parameter?
Thanks,
