puppet on os x: definitive setup notes?
i''ve been reading docs and blundering my way through a simple puppet client/server setup between two test hosts (puppetmasterd on server 10.5.8, puppet client on client 10.6.2) and am wondering if there''s any current definitive guide for configuring puppet for os x systems. it also seems the gems installed on my client with ruby 1.9.1 as default don''t work very well

Mac OS X pkgs up.
So I''ve done some Mac OS X pkgs for the latest Facter and Puppet, as well as a combined mpkg for them both. Jeff McCune and I are doing a fair bit of testing on them this week in preparation for MacWorld, so I wasn''t going to upload them to the official site for another few days, but they''re looking pretty good. http://explanatorygap.net/puppet/Facter_1.3.8.pkg.zip http://explanatorygap.net/puppet/Puppet_0.24.1.pkg.zip http://explanatorygap.net/puppet/Puppet_0.24.1_Facter_1.3.8.m...

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Hello there, complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). Disappointed to see that PowerPC is not a supported architecture and that non ARM or Intel architecture are not managed by recent distros.. :-(. Searching the web, I see very few possibilities to install a recent (I need gnome2) GNU/Linux distro on such hardware. I gave Linux

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Besides the other linux distros mentioned, you have another more retro type choice http://www.macworld.com/article/2363177/macs/turn-your-g4-era-mac-into-a-next-gen-amiga.html On Tue, Sep 15, 2015 at 2:29 AM, wwp <subscript at free.fr> wrote: > Hello there, > > > complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install > a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). AJAX can reduce bandwidth
MacRumors had a PHP page that gave up to the minute details on Steve Job''s keynote at MacWorld by using AJAX to refresh the page at regular intervals (thus keeping users from constantly reloading the page). They have posted details about their system as well as some interesting stats. http://www.macrumors.com/events/mwsf2006-stats.php To summarize, they served 32GB of data in a thre...

OT: Anyone Using a Time Logger?
I have multiple projects and it''s important for me to track time by client and by project. There''s a Windows application that allows me to do this, but I''m looking for a cross-platform solution. I looked at ConsultComm but it wouldn''t install on my Mac. Rather than rewriting what seems like a commonly-required app, I wondered if anyone else had something they

Changing IMAP separator - does it break things?
Dear Colleagues, I am using Dovecot 2.3.4.1 with maildirs. Just found out that MacOS Mail clients cannot work with nested folders, presumably because the MacOS Mail does not understand "." as the IMAP separator. Other clients (ThunderBird, Sylpheed, mutt) work fine. Do you think I can change the hierarchy separator in the "inbox" namespace without breaking other clients and

Why Macs instead of AMD or Intel ? Just curious
My first computer was a Mac (SE30) but it was also my last so I am not without appreciation of Apples wonderful aptitude for design. Without starting a flame-fest why do so many ruby and rails developers use a Mac ? It seems to be a commonality within the ruby and RoR community. Especially laptops. The first ruby users group meeting I attended was about 50% Macs (or so it seemed to me - I
