I'm guessing this is all the Mac's fault due to it's version or implementation of Samba. Apple is not very good at supporting/updating this kind of thing. Hello, I encounter the same problem on MacOSX 10.5.6, either using X11 supplied with Leopard, or X11 2.3.3.2 (XQuartz) and Xcode 3.1.2.
