macOS9 patches committed
I finally got around to committing Chris Hanson's MacOS9 patches. Just though
you should know.

vorbisfile for Mac Classic
Hi, this is my first post, I hope it's the right
mailing list (or should it be vorbis@xiph.org?)
I just downloaded "SDK for MacOS9" and tried to
compile the "vorbisfile_example.c" sample with
CodeWarrior for Mac 8 on a Mac OS 9.2 machine. I
included the libOgg and libVorbis libraries in my
project, but the linker cannot file ov_clear(),
ov_read(), ov_pcm_total(), ov_info(), ov_comment() and
ov_open(). I looked a...

[BUG] VFS Netatalk and OSX/OS9
...]
- AMD Opteron 248, 8GB
- SuSE 9.1 Prof. x86_64
- Samba v3.0.11-2.1 from ftp.samba.org
(ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/Binary_Packages/SuSE/3.0/x86_64/9.1/)
- netatalk v2.0.2 (self compiled)
[situation]
we're accessing our samba fileserver (files, directories, ... ) from
different platforms (MacOS9, MacOSX, WinXP) and we're using the "vfs
objects = netatalk" module in our shares to keep the forks in sync
[problem]
if i create a file from MacOS9 (AFP via netatalk) without extension and
move/rename it on a smb client samba doesn't take care for the fork - it
simply delete...

Iptables and impersonating another O/S
i have a CentOS 5.1 server running sshd (exposed to the outside world).
i'd like to use iptables to fool nmap into thinking i'm running
another O/S.
e.g.:
iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -d 192.168.0.64 -j PERS \
--tweak dst --local --conf /etc/personalities/macos9.conf
iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -d 192.168.0.64 -j PERS \
--tweak src --local --conf /etc/personalities/macos9.conf
all of the tutorials on iptables i've found take me through steps that
involve
a kernel recompile ... do i really need to do this?
is there a tutorial that provides a so...

Mac OS X canonically decomposed UTF-16 filenames
Hi.
I'd like to find some way for Samba to convert the filenames created
by Macintosh OS X into something windows can use.
According to their docs:
http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/SystemOverview/FileSystem/chapter_9_section_13.html
filenames are stored as
canonically decomposed Unicode 2.1 in UTF-16 format (a sequence of
16-bit codes)
Samba running on a

Setting up VC6 to build VP3 source
...une/macropak/download.htm
Install them in this order. The iaxmm.inc file can be copied to VC include
directory. I wonder if you guys are building it wieh VC .Net? Not that I am
eager to install it, but in the future MS will probably discontinue support
for VC6.
Now on to my Code Warrior builds on MacOS9 and OSX, starting with a clean
installation. I will report to the list if there are any obvious steps
missing or dependancies that need to be installed. Which version of CW are
you guys using now? I could build it with CW7, but it is a bit buggy to
debug on MacOSX. Should I use CW8?
Regards,
Mauri...

smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi,
I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a
Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0
with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac
ran MacOS9.
The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb.
Here's what happened:
[root@sonal ~]# smbmount '\\akemi\archivio' [pwd] -c 'mount /mnt/tmp'
[root@sonal ~]# ll /mnt/tmp/
ls: /mnt/tmp/aaa: No such file or directory
ls: /mnt/tmp/bbb: No such file o...

R seven years ago
Hello everyone,
As some may know, today Google unveiled its 2001 search index [1]. I
was curious to see how was R like at that time, and was not
disappointed. Compared to today's main page [2], seven years ago the
page looked [3] a bit rudimentary, especially the graphic. (It is wort
noting that structurally the pages are very similar.) What definitely
changed is the `Contributed
