Demo in rails2.pdf of add_price migration, PostgreSQL 8.1.4
People,
I''m looking at the migrate example on p 74 of the rails2.pdf
It''s a simple example of using a migration to add a column to
the products table.
Here is a copy of the migration file named 002_add_price.rb
after I generated and then edited it:
class AddPrice < ActiveRecord::Migration
def self.up
add_column :products, :price, :decimal, :precision => 8, :scale

R 1.2.3 for MacOS/X available
From release 1.2.3, R can run different Macintosh platforms.
Two versions are currently available that are non concurrent.
One version runs on MacOS Systems from 8.6 to 9.1 and MacOSX using the
standard MacOS/MacOSX interface, that means that is behaves like any
usual Macintosh application. (This is mantained by Stefano M. Iacus)
The other version is a Darwin/X11 that means a Unix-like version taking
advantages of the X11 server (to be inst...

r-project.org SSL certificate issues
...be libcurl / openssl

Yes, indeed it seems that old OpenSSL versions cannot handle
alternative certificate chains. This has been fixed in OpenSSL in
2015, so modern Linux systems should be fine. However, macOS uses
LibreSSL, and LibreSSL never fixed this issue. E.g.
https://github.com/libressl-portable/portable/issues/595
r-project.org can be updated to send the new root certificate, which
will solve most of our problems, but we'll probably have issues with
other web sites that'll update slower...

Copy a directory from macOS to Samba fails
Hi,
unfortunately copying a directory from macOS to a Samba share fails, if
the macOS set ACLs in the source directory. The error on macOS side
basically informs the user, that the operation can’t be completed
because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
Unfortunately macOS automatically sets these ACLs sometimes. Relevant...

LLVM 9.0.0 prebuilt binaries for MacOS
Hello,
I noticed that there are no prebuilt binaries available for MacOS for
the latest LLVM 9.0.0 release http://releases.llvm.org/download.html.
Official prebuilt binaries for MacOS are available for 8.0.0 on that
same page, so I wonder if there's any chance we'll get them for 9.0.0 ?
Thanks,

Submitting patches for MacOS X
I'm going to want to submit patches for MacOS X in the near future (hopefully tonight or tomorrow night), but I don't see what flags to cvs diff you guys like to receive.
Included in these patches will be a MacOS X module for libao which uses the CoreAudio framework along with some other minor stuff.

Samba 4.20rc3 does not build on macOS
Hi, I am new here.
I just tried to build it Samba 4.20rc3 because I would like to use the "wspsearch" on macOS. (I also built it first on Debian 12.5, which worked fine.)
However, ./configure aborts:

Can a macOS (Posix) client see symlinks on FreeBSD server as symlinks on client?
Hello, Samba folks:
Is there a setting I could invoke, either on my server's Samba
configuration or on my macOS smbfs configuration, which would make the
hundreds of legacy symbolic links on the server's Posix file system
appear as symbolic links on the macOS client?
Does Samba claim that it will present symlinks on the server file system
as symlinks to a client?
Some background:

editor for MacOS
Dear friends - I'm using Tinn-R in Windows and find it OK. My son is
running MacOS and is just starting using R and I know nothing about
MacOS and R but we seem to have difficulties in finding something
similar to Tinn for MaC. What are your suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

readLines on open connection reads only first write on MacOS
I was using readLines to read data from a file which is being written to by another
process. readLines documentation says "If the connection is open it is read from its
current position". With R 4.4.1 on Linux 5.15.160 this is true but does not seem to be the
case as far as R 4.4.1 on MacOS 12.7.6 (Intel) is concerned. Here, the first write to the
file is read correctly but subsequent reads return nothing. The minimal program below
shows the behaviour and produces the following results:
Linux:
input 1: lines written/read: 4 / 4
input 2: lines written/read: 3 / 3
input 3: lines writte...

ld.lld on MacOS question
Thanks for the answer. However, this means I need a different linker for MacOS as for Windows/Linux?
I guess it is a not a major thing but I was hoping to set up a cross compile env. where only the header files and shared libraries differed :-( I guess we’re not there yet … :-)
Kind regards,
