Hi, A little slightly off topic request for help. I just want to authenticate logins against AD and nothing else, no SMB or anything else. What firewall ports do I need open and is it TCP or UDP. Thanks, Richard Sent from my iPad

Widespread implementation of rsync
...hm provides an efficient way to transfer files from one computer to another over a slow communication link. But I have been wondering why don't we see a widespread implementation of rsync in most popular file transfer tools. I know that the algorithm was conceived by Andrew Tridgell and Paul Mackerras from Department of Computer Science, Australian National University. I was thinking about implementing this algorithm in Java and make it available as a freeware/shareware. I guess I would need some kind of permission/license to develop a program that uses rsync. I will appreciate if someone on...

rsync speed
...39;m using rsync to synchronize two directories on a Solaris 8 e450 server. rsync copies about 22GB per night. It seems to take 50 minutes for the copy to complete. which seems a little bit slow. I'm currently running # /opt/bin/rsync -v rsync version 2.3.1 Copyright Andrew Tridgell and Paul Mackerras If i upgrade to 2.5.6 can i expect to see a speed increase. Thanks Karl

Because various life events have been monopolizing my time, I reached out to Tridge (the original author) and he has graciously agreed to get back into rsync work, along with Paul Mackerras, who was also an early contributor to rsync. This new team will be working mainly on maintenance tasks, and not so much on new features. If you want to get involved, feel free to reach out on the new discord RsyncProject channels. LGPL relicense port of rsync
Hi, I am maintaining a port of rsync (https://github.com/perlundq/yajsync) which is GPL:ed of course. The main purpose of the project is to provide a Java API library for the rsync protocol. It would therefore be really nice to be able to use LGPL as the license. But in order to do so I would first have to get a list of all the individual contributors to rsync and then be able to contact them
