how to detect if qemu supports live disk snapshot
Hi everyone, Using the QEMU hypervisor, when a live disk snapshot is requested through libvirt, the request can fail if the underyling qemu binary lacks the snapshotting support. In python, we have something like libvirtError: Operation not supported: live disk snapshot not supported with this QEMU binary I'd like to detect ahead of time if the underlying QEMU can or cannot do

VMs fail to start with NUMA configuration
I am using libvirt 0.10.2.2 and qemu-kvm 1.2.2 (qemu-kvm 1.2.0 + qemu 1.2.2 applied on top plus a number of stability patches). Having issue where my VMs fail to start with the following message: kvm_init_vcpu failed: Cannot allocate memory Following the instructions at http://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsNUMATuning I've added the following to my VCPU configuration: <vcpu

Rejecting auth request from client xxx machine account, win7,
Hi All, I have a strange problem with my SAMBA server as PDC. I have some win7 machines joined to my domain but when I try to access some folders on the server I get messages like these: Authentication for user [machine$] -> [machine$] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD [2012/01/17 11:34:52, 0] rpc_server/srv_netlog_nt.c:_netr_ServerAuthenticate2(555) _netr_ServerAuth...

Weird..
I have a machine with 'samba + winbind' installed ... everything works fine. its my beta-machine.. so i used norton ghost to clone it to another computers, and as usual it works good, so i decided to do it with 5 machines. at the end of the procedure i changed the ip of each one and the netbios name.... so i have 5 cloned machines with 'winbind+samba' and thats good.. but if i turn all of them on, together, i can only log in at the last one i turned on.. at all others machines i can't log in.. it shows...

Samba 3 + PDC + LDAP machine accounts
...ould hopefully be a simple question. I've noticed that their is a setting: ldap machine suffix Allowing you to put all the machine accounts in a different tree in your ldap directory (which is a definate plus). However, I note, that it is almost impossible to do so. Has anyone done this (eg had machines in ou=Machines,dc=domain,dc=com and people in ou=People,dc=domain,dc=com)? If so, how did you add machines? I've tried smbpasswd -a -m MACHINE and with debugging, it shows that it tries to find a posix account for MACHINE$ first, which obviously doesn't exist. The actual fault is, after det...

[libvirtd] qemu_process: reset CPU affinity to all enabled CPUs, when runs in custom cpuset
Hello All, Since 4.5.0-23.el7 version (Red Hat 7.7), when I launch pinned VM, libvirtd reset CPU affinity to all enabled in host CPUs, if it runs in custom cpuset. I can't reproduce this behavior with 4.5.0-10.el7_6.12 with the same kernel version (Red Hat 7.7). Libvirt runs in a custom cpuset 'libvirt', where the number of available cpus is restricted to 0,2,4,6,8. And this

samba resolves wrong wins ip address
Hello all, This has been making me crazy for a while, but it seems like a really easy fix. I just can't figure out what it is. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have two Linux machines existing on a mostly MS network and have samba running well on each. However, one machine resolves the wrong ip address of the other machine. Here's the setup. Machine 1: Laptop uses DHCP to get dynamic address uses samba-3.0.1 (wins server = a.b.c.d) to register name/ip address with WINS se...

Stats help with calculating between and within subject variance and confidence intervals
...und a reference to a method in Burdick, R. K. & Graybill, F. A. 1992, Confidence Intervals on variance components, CRC Press. This example is for Balanced Data confidence interval calculation from Pg 62. The data are fill weights from bottles sampled randomly from a sample of four filling machines. There are 12 values, and the confidence intervals are for 1-2a = 95%. I have got the same results as the book but using slightly different fomulae (see variables for H1, G1 and H12 and G12). I'd appreciate any help, and any comments on whether their is a better way to do this. Thanks...

Error Join Machine in Domain - Samba 4 Debian Jessie
Hi guys: After a power outage, one machine network does not enter the field more. The machine is a Windows 7 Professional. I have a Samba 4 server as the PDC. Every time I try to join in the Domain this machine is a user error and password on your computer, however they are correct. I have 15 machines in the field and only this machine with this problem. Already excludes account Samba Server machine, I already changed the hostname and nothing worked. Does anyone have any idea what I can do yet? I checked the DNS settings, WINS, DHCP, etc and all is well. I do not know where the problem might be...

linear mixed model question
Hello, I wanted to fit a linear mixed model to a data that is similar in terms of design to the 'Machines' data in 'nlme' package except that each worker (with triplicates) only operates one machine. I created a subset of observations from 'Machines' data such that it looks the same as the data I wanted to fit the model with (see code below). I fitted a model in which 'Ma...

How to explain this libvirt oddity w.r.t machine types?
Context: The baremetal host previously had QEMU 2.11. But I manually downgraded the QEMU version (via `dnf downgrade qemu-system-x86`); now it is at 2.10: $ rpm -q qemu-system-x86 qemu-system-x86-2.10.2-1.fc27.x86_64 The guest is offline. Let's see (in a couple of ways) what machine type it has while it is dormant: # virsh dumpxml cirros | grep -i machine= <type

roaming user profiles do not transfer all settings
this may sound like a basic question but i'm not entirely sure how roaming profiles work so i'm not sure if i have it working properly. i created a local user account on a client machine and then joined that machine to the domain. i then logged in as domain administrator and copied the user profile from the local machine to the server. if i login with this user account (now the domain

UEFI booting
...emed to go fine. CentOS 7.6 x86_64 I then took that disk "out" of that machine and put it another machine - it seems to not even boot. I put the original disk back in that machine and it boots fine. I put the UEFI disk back in the machine I built it on and it works fine. They are similar machines either and i3 and i7. Shouldn't that work? Build a UEFI disk on machine A - move it to machine B? Thanks Jerry

one server handled sendmail added two more servers messes things up
Hi all, I had one server running centos 4.7 i686 everything was fine with incoming mail. I now added two more servers centos 5.4 x86_64 and gave them machine names all part of the same domain as machine 1. I noticed that incoming emails are being round robined to all three machines. At this time I really just want the one original machine to handle my incoming email... The other two new machines are for other purposes. How do I tell the two new machines that all incoming email send to machine 1. Is there an easy way to do that? At this point I just turned off the two ne...

Problem with softlinks under samba on RHEL
Hello all Samba enthusiasts. I am a noob w.r.t. samba configuration and just happened to use it on Solaris systems by creating conf files using copy-paste :-). This is just to convey that I'm no advanced user and might need help with the solutions / alternatives to come. Some background => Here is my smb.conf: === [global] workgroup = <company domain> server string = Samba
