...The PCs in question support PXE, which allows loading a boot file
via tftp. A search of the web led me to lots of ways to boot Linux
clients from Linux servers, but no hint as to how to boot Windows
clients from Linux servers. Anyone give me a clue?

I interpret the client's behaviour as if it's running into the same
problem.
So, how come samba is using he wrong address? And, how do I persuade
it to use the correct address as registered in DNS?
