RE: the "cisco vs. Linux" thread
FYI this topic has been covered on the Zebra and Quagga lists - hardware processors, memory, NICs, etc - software OS (Linux, *BSD), drivers, etc I''ve been running a couple of Linux routers for about 2 years now, I''m using them as core routers so I bought a couple of rackmount "server" boxes with redundant PSUs and h/w RAID (1) for hotswap disks. gluster + synology
In theory, you can run GlusterFS on a Synology box, as it is "just a Linux box". In practice, you might be the first person to ever try it. gluster + synology
Hi, Does anyone have any experience of using Synology NAS servers as bricks in a gluster setup? The ops team at my work prefers Synology since that is what they are already using and some of the nice out-of-the-box admin features. From what I can tell Synology runs a custom linux flavor so it should be possible to compile gluster on it. Any first hand experience with it? Thanks, Ben

'ERROR: parsing the volfile failed' on fresh install
glusterd.vol file is default installed with glusterfs package. So I'm not sure how did you end up into a state where this file was missing (as per my initial investigation looking at the logs). What you could do to check if this file is really missing or not by running "find / -iname glusterd.vol" and if it's indeed missing then copy it from one of the peer node and restart

Problems running features with Textmate Cucumber bundle
I finally plunked down for the beta RSpec bundle and I''m working through the initial example. Although I''m a fairly experienced RSpec user, I''m stlll learning new tricks. Anyway, I''m going though the mastermind example, and everything is going well, except that I decided to also try out the Textmate bundle for Cucumber. I decided to use Ben Mabey''s

Autotest with rspec HTML output
Hey all, I was just wondering if any one has played around with getting autotest''s rspec integration working with rspec''s HTML output. I really like how in the rspec textmate bundle the context of the failing code is inlined with the failing spec along with the exact line highlighted and a link to the exact spot in reference. However, I rarely use this nice output since

Messing around with iptables
Hello all, I am messing around with iptables, trying to learn how it works so that I can build my self a router/firewall and mabey a VPN. Anyway I tried to use a command on my Desktop CentOS3 machine. "iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -p icmp -j DROP" now the command seems to have went through because I didn't get any errors, but when I go to ping 127.0.0.1 I am getting a response

network scripts debian
Working at setting up some new firewalls with multi-path routing over 2 isps. Doing it with debian sarge. Problem is the normal network scripts use ifconfig and route. In my tests I did a simple setup script. Feel like I am reinventing the wheel :-) Is it OK to use the network scripts to setup the interface and then remove the routes ifconfig created and add any needed routes with ip

Testing c code with rspec?
Hey all, Has any one ever tested or try to test c code with rspec? I am using system calls to my compiled c program and testing against the standard output but I would like to get a lot more granular than this. I have experimented with using RubyInline to test individual functions and that works on functions that are not calling other c functions. I have some other ideas on how to do this

Problem with multiple N/W cards
Hi, I am trying to set up a linux box with 5 N/W cards of which one is 10/100/1000T and the others are 10/100T. I connected all the cards and turned on the machine. I wanted to force eth0 to be the 1000T cards but the cards get allotted eth0 to eth4 randomly. Is there some way wherein I can force my 1000T card to be eth0. Also I want to turn off auto negotation & flow control on the 1000T
