can't boot after volume rename
I renamed my volume with vgrename however I didn't complete the other steps.
Mainly update fstab and intiramfs. Once I booted, I was dropped on the
Dracut shell. From here I can see the newly rename VG and I can lvm lvscan
as well as activate it, lvm vgchange -ay.
However I can't figure out what to do next, I'm assuming I need to
regenerate the initramfs and then boot to change grub? Could someone point
me in the right direction to recovering a FS from Dracut, or other means,
once the volume group name w...

e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block
I posted this to the Fedora-list, but thought I might get some
additional information here as well.
I have a HD that refuses to mount with a 'bad magic number in

LiveCD System recovery - Mounting LVM?
Hi,
I am trying to recover data from my old system which had LVM. The disk had
two partitions - /dev/sda1 (boot, Linux) and /dev/sda2 (Linux LVM). I had
taken a backup of both partitions using dd.
Now I am booting of CentOS live cd for system restore. I recreated
partitions like previous system using fdisk and then used dd to dump all the
data onto it. I would like to mount sda2 as LVM, but I

what''s correct way of shrinking LVM based domU?
Hi all
I want to shrink one of my LVM based domU''s, but don''t quite know how to
do it.
I have searched the Wiki & HOWTO''s, and they all show you how expand /
enlarge a LVM based domU, but not shrinking it.
So, I stopped (destroyed) the domU, and then resized it as follows:
lvresize /dev/data/cpanel1 -L10GB (It was 100GB), but when I a started
it up again, I

CentOS 5.1 and Xen - mount: could not find filesystem ''/dev/root''
Hi all-
I''m hoping someone can help me with this problem with Xen under CentOS
5.1 (RHEL 5.1) I''m having... This is the Xen package that comes stock
with the distribution, I didn''t compile it from source. I can boot
Domain0 and the hypervisor just fine. I''m trying to bring up a Xen

Duplicate PV on HW RAID?
...0 SHV Server Board.
2) Installed Centos 5.1, default LVM style. Anaconda saw a single 500GB disk
so I assumed this was a true hardware RAID system. Am I wrong here?
3) Then wanted to reduce LogVol00 so as to make room for a new, data only
filesystem on its own LV. Started by booting with rescue CD, lvscanned the
disk, lvchanged -a y. Intended to resize root filesystem with resize2fs. Was
asked to fsck, which I did (by the way, getting many errors). Fixed them all
(fingers crossed), fsck again said ok. Then resize2fs worked happily.
4) Rebooted the installed system. Now "Duplicate PV" shows...

LVM & volume groups
Can anybody tell me if it makes a difference if domU''s have separate LVM
volume groups?
For instance, the Xen User Manual

forced fsck (again?)
hello everyone.
i guess this has been asked before, but haven't found it in the faq.
i have the following issue...
it is not uncommon nowadays to have desktops with filesystems
in the order of 500gb/1tb.
now, my kubuntu (but other distros do the same) forces a fsck
on ext3 every so often, no matter what.
in the past it wasn't a big issue.
but with sizes increasing so much, users are
