LVM Snapshots -broken ? Ever worked ?
I've upgraded my x86_64 4.2 box to the latest kernel 2.6.9.34 and tried
an lvm snapshot. It worked fine and I was able to mount the snapshot
etc. Now I cannot seem to remove the snapshot. If I try a 'lvremove'
it asks if I want to remove the 'active' snapshot, if I say yes it just
hangs and the box goes to 99% wait io, however the disk lights do not
come on during this. The lvremove process is not straceable so I've got
no idea whats going on with it.
Luckily I chose to snapshot /tmp...

lvremove killed
hi,
My volume group is vg. Inside that i have around 10 lvm partitions
(each of 100GB).
When I try to remove partitions using
lvremove /dev/vg/lvm1
It acts like the machine freezes and after a long time the lvremove
process gets killed saying "Killed"
Whats wrong here.
I don't see anything interesting in /var/log/message
Thanks
Paras.

can not lvcreate after lvm snapshot and "xm mem-set" and lvremove
I am not sure if it''s a xen bug or lvm bug, or just my bad hardware,
but here''s how to reproduce:
/dev/vg0/centos1 is lvm block used by a domainU, it''s 8G in size.
#lvcreate -L8192M -s -n snap1 vg0
#mount /dev/vg0/snap1 /mnt
do some copying files here
#umount /mnt
#lvremove /dev/vg0/snap1
not removed! it says can''t allocated memory
#xm mem-set 0 512
#lvremove /dev/vg0/snap1
now it removed successfully
#lvcreate -L4096M -n fedora1 vg0
System lockup at this point. I have to login from another terminal.

CentOS 7 - xfs shrink & expand
I'm having some difficulty finding a method to shrink my /home to expand
my /.? They both correspond to LVMs.? It is my understanding that one
cannot shrink a xfs filesystem.? One must back it up (xfsdump), remove
(lvremove) redefine it and then restore it back (xfsrestore).
Okay, I'm running into a problem where /home? needs to be "unused".? If
tried going in to "maintance mode", but I ran into a problem with the

LVM2 snapshots and XEN = problem :(
...guys
Does anyone use lvm2 backends for domU storages ? I do and I wanted to
use lvm''s snapshot feature to make backups of domUs in background but I
got the following problem.
When I create a snapshot LV and copy data from it to backup storage it
works perfect.
Then I do umount and then lvremove. lvremove asks me if I really want to
remove the volume and then just hangs forever. In the same time affected
domU almost hangs too - it becomes very slow but still live.
The only solution of this situation is to shutdown domU, deactivate
domU''s LV and then run lvremove for shapshot v...

Best Practice to remove an ISCSI LVM from a system
Hi,
I'd like to know what would be the best way to remove an iscsi lvm
storage from a server. (removing all reference to that storage etc.)
The storage in question will be reset and reformated and used on a
different server; so no LVM export is needed.
Do I have to do lvremove ..., vgremove ..., pvremove ... and do an
iscsiadm -m node -T ... -p ... -u and
iscsiadm -m node -o delete -T ... -p ...
in order to achieve that?
Or is there some more simple way?
Thanks for any suggestion and best regards . G?tz

That's it. Thanks for the information.
How would I remove the only the snapshot but not the base volume? Will
$ lvremove /dev/vg0/lv-vm-tviewer
leave the base volume untouched?

question(s) about LVM snapshots
...to try out LVM snapshots and I have 2 things I'm
wondering about
My intention is to run backups off the snapshot. As a first
iteration, I left 15% of the disk for the snapshot LV.
1.
The HOWTO instructions suggest that the snapshot is in effect as long
as the snapshot LV exists, and use lvremove to disable the snapshot.
Is this the proper way?
2.
I chose 15% because the disk is not that active and I think it will
be plenty for the duration of the backup I'm doing. Is there a way to
track how much space the snapshot is actually using?
Cheers,

shrink LV with ext3 filesystem
Hi.
I want to make a snapshot from a logical volume and noticed that there
must be enough free disk space in the volume group. Actually there is no
free disk space left.
How do i shrink online /var without losing any data or restore from
backup? I do not have physical access to the server.
