how to map dom0 lvms as DomU partitions
...file disk = [ ''phy:/dev/virtualization/domu5-swap,xvda1,w'', ''phy:/dev/virtualizatiion/domu5-disk,xvda2,w'', ] It is not working. Is it the wrong way to map or where can I get more details about mapping of LVMs to DomU -- Tapas _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Centos-6.8 fsck and lvms
I have a CentOS-6.8 system which has a suspected HHD failure. I have booted it into rescue mode from a CentOS-6.5 minimal install CD in order to run fsck -c on it. The system hosts several vms. I have activated the lvs associated with these vm using pvscan -s ; vgscan ; vgchange -ay. An lvscan shows the lvs as ACTIVE. None are mounted. When I try to run fsck on any of them I see the

Success moving Xen LVMs from 32 to 64bit host
...ement server was a quad-core AMD Phenom system running 64-bit CentOS 5.4. Our original plan was to use LVM snapshots so that we wouldn't need a maintenance window. This worked fine in test, but we decided to bring down the Xen guests after all. After shutting down the systems we backed up the LVMs. To show the backing LV: lvdisplay /dev/rootvg/xm_c32_001 >From this, we grabbed the "Current LE" field and LV Size. We used LV Size to create a temporary mount point. We used the "Current LE" parameter to create an identically sized LV on the replacement server . On the f...

Help with software raid + LVM on Centos 6
Hi all, Please excuse the many posts. Wondering if any one can help me with the the setup. I have 2x2TBdisks. I would like to mirror them. I would like to create two LVMs so that I can snap shot from one to the other. During Centos 6 install, how would I go about this as its confusing? So far I am here; 1) Created the following raid devices; md0 500MB (use it for /boot) md1 4000MB (use it for swap) md2 All remaining space (use it for /) 2) Created two physical L...

Upgrade to new drives in raid, larger
Hi all, As part of my raid experience, I have yet to have to do this, but was wondering how you guys would attempt it. I have 3 drives in a raid 1, with one as a hot spare. They are 250gb with all space used by two raid devices, 1 with boot, the other with LVMs filling them up. Now, lets say down the road I want to put in 500gb drives and replace them....yikes. I was thinking of taking out the spare and replacing it first. Then cloning the raid 1 array drive as I normally would. This would leave 250 gb open. Then I was thinking to make it a spare and t...

adding SAN "diskspace" to CentOS system residing on VMware
Hey, group, I've got a system installed on a VMware VM. The SAN administrator allocated me more disk space from the (EMC) SAN and I need ultimately to create another partition to mount on the filesystem. Two (initial) questions about this: What steps do I need to take prior to creating a new partition with fdisk? (The SAN space, BTW, is connected through VMware.) The OS is already

CentOS 7 - xfs shrink & expand
I'm having some difficulty finding a method to shrink my /home to expand my /.? They both correspond to LVMs.? It is my understanding that one cannot shrink a xfs filesystem.? One must back it up (xfsdump), remove (lvremove) redefine it and then restore it back (xfsrestore). Okay, I'm running into a problem where /home? needs to be "unused".? LVM Read/Write speed <10% drive''s normal speed
...l The dom0 and domUs in my Xen setup are all Ubuntu 9.04, using that kernel. (I''m not sure if the kernel has something to do with it, so i included it just in case.) All the domUs are set up to use LVM. The dom0 uses a straight ext3 fs on /dev/sda1. The domUs use ext3 fs''s within LVMs (using LVM2) set up on /dev/sda5. I have noticed a massive file I/O problem on all of my domUs. While I can peak file operations around 100 MB/s within the dom0, I can''t get anything more than 3 MB/s read OR write out of a file operation on the domUs. I am using values reported by "i...

a peculiar LVM failure on CentOS 6 run as a VMware 5.5 guest
...VM (64 bit) running on a VMware vSphere 5.5 server. It was running just fine until one day I decided to reboot it and it just would not boot up. Effectively, dracut failed to initialize the LVM, much like under the scenario described here: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/207593/how-to-make-lvms-at-available-boot-kernel-panic-dracut-cannot-find-logical-vo# Following that I booted it off a Centos 6.6 install DVD in the rescue mode. It recognized the LVM partition without a glitch, booted it and seemed quite happy with it. having examined it, I discovered that, even though the root partitio...

BUG: slow xen performance under freebsd freenas
...screen. I have to press 1 before it goes to screen in order for me to boot freenas (runnning under (hvm). Server 2012 started to slow down also. I was running instance and when I connected to it was very sluggish I had rebooted it and now seems normal. I tested virtual hard drive performance I use lvms and I was getting 90 mb/s and 120 mb/s on two different servers but whole vm seems slower now. Any pointers on debugging it ? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-users

Software RAID relies on the system itself to fulfill its RAID function; what if kernel panics before software RAID does its job? Plan for libguestfs 1.34
Libguestfs 1.32 was released on 2016-01-06, which is over 6 months ago. In fact the previous stable version of libguestfs (1.30) was released on 2015-07-21, almost exactly 12 months ago. Are we heading for a 6 month release cycle? Not officially. Anyway, I would like you to think about what needs work for the next stable 1.34 release. Any new APIs added in the 1.33 cycle will become supported

FSCK?
An EXT3 filesystem technically isn't supposed to require an fsck, correct? Well, as per my last email re: EXT3 Crash?! I ran an fsck on a couple of my LVMs. It said they were clean, but then I decided to be 100% sure and force an fsck. Error after Error after Error after Error. I wound up losing almost half the data on my LVM due to all the errors. What's the real deal? Am I doing something wrong here? -JL
