Don't understand how to re-partition this setup or why it was made like this
...,
I did df -h on my CentOS 6.4 machine.
$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/vg_ysg-lv_root
47G 8.8G 36G 20% /
tmpfs 948M 372K 947M 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 485M 62M 398M 14% /boot
/dev/mapper/vg_ysg-lv_home
4.6G 2.7G 1.7G 63% /home
What I don't understand is why is /home so tiny and how can I re-partition
this without having to nuke and rebuild my machine?

login fail on crypted /home

the home of this user on the crypted partition.
The problem looks strange for me and google has not helped....
This how I build the crypted partition (following a tutorial, just
changing ext4 with xfs):
lvcreate -L 30G -n lv_home vg_portable
badblocks -s -w -t random -v /dev/vg_portable/lv_home
cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/vg_portable/lv_home
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/vg_portable/lv_home c_home
mkfs -t xfs -L /home /dev/mapper/c_home
The blkid command shows:

enlarging partition and its filesystem
Hi all!
I've got a VM at work running C6 on HyperV (no, its not my fault,
that's what the company uses. I'd rather gag myself than own one
of th ose things.)
I ran out of disk space in the VM, so the admin enlarged the virtual disk.
but now I realize I don't know how to enlarge the partition and its
filesystem.
I'll be googling, but in case I miss it, it'd be great if

lost a lvm after update to Centos6.6
Hello All,
the update to Centos6.6 got interrupted on a laptop.
I then did this:
package-cleanup --cleandupes
yum-complete-transaction
and remove and reinstall the latest kernel.
I now get an error message when booting:
/dev/mapper/vg_jvermeulen-lv_home does not exist.
I can boot into single user mode and run all commands.
in fdisk -l .....lv_home is not listed.
How can I re-add this?
I do have a backup of this machine.
Thanks for any help.
Greetings, Johan

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
Dear All,
I am in desperate need for LVM data rescue for my server.
I have an VG call vg_hosting consisting of 4 PVs each contained in a
separate hard drive (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, and /dev/sdd1).
And this LV: lv_home was created to use all the space of the 4 PVs.
Right now, the third hard drive is damaged; and therefore the third PV
(/dev/sdc1) cannot be accessed anymore. I would like to recover whatever
left in the other 3 PVs (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, and /dev/sdd1).
I have tried with the following:

How to move /var to another partition
...I'll create a new LV
for /var/lib/whatever, mkfs_xfs and mount it (adding it to /etc/fstab)
when I want to explore something new like a database server, setup a web

simple as..
lvextend -L +20g /dev/mapper/vg_xxxx-lv_home && xfs_growfs /home

Issue mounting /home area from NAS server
Hi,
Just before the Thanksgiving break, we enabled quotas on
the /home areas on the mseas-data server (running CentOS 5.8),
using the following line in the updated /etc/fstab
/dev/mapper/the_raid-lv_home /home ext3
defaults,usrquota,grpquota 1 0
Following the Thanksgiving reboot of mseas-data we have been
experiencing problems with svn on mseas (our front-end machine,
running CentOS 6.2). After consulting with the svn mailing list,
it appeared to be a communication issue between...

Your root filesystem is in an LVM volume. CentOS 6 is still using GRUB legacy, which does not support /boot in LVM.
For you, there really is no way around the messy and delicate process of shrinking and relocating a filesystem and the LVM vo...
