Where are the older versions?
Hi, Anyone know where I can get a .tar.gz of 2.0.2? I'd like this version, since the PDC code is reportedly more stable than 2.0.3. Or has this been fixed in 2.0.3? NT Domain and Samba as a PDC
...in 2.0.x. I haven't downloaded the 2.0.x stuff yet. Are the docs that come with it sufficient to get me where I need/want to go today :) Or should I wait for the O'Reilly book due out rsn. Any opinions, ideas, pointers to docs, etc. are quite welcome :) Thanks, -- Seeya, Paul ---- plussier@baynetworks.com Broadband Technology Division - Bay Networks (now a Nortel Company, Eh? :) If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right!

Samba across subnets?
...g to do a DNS resolution or something? The system isn't in our local DNS server, only NIS. And since I'm using aliases with the system, they aren't in either DNS or NIS. I would expect it to resolve via netbios, since it is showing up in the NN browser! Samba servers disappeared?!
...thing shows up in NN. I understand that it can take upto 55 minutes in a worst case scenario for the master browser to update, but it's been 4 days. I rebooted the PC I'm testing with, I've restarted smbd several times. Does anyone have any ideas? No INSTALL file?
Hi all, Is there no INSTALL file that ships with samba? I thought there was one there at one time. Is the install procedure as simple as: ./configure [possible various options] make make install Or is there more to it than that? LDAP docs?
Hi all, Can someone please point me to where I would find info on the experimental LDAP support for Samba? I've looked through everything I could find on the web and in the 2 more recent books, but could only find passing mention that it's being worked on. Is it still so experimental that no one's documented anything about it yet? Thanks, -- Seeya, Paul ---- Doing

Corrupted Excel files, oplock_break(905) errors
Hi there everyone! I'm using Samba 2.0.5a-19990721 on a RedHat 6.0 machine with Linux kernel 2.2.12. My system generally works fine, however recently I've had some complaints about some files being corrupted. The latest and best-handled to enable a debugging happened at around the same time. Both clients were using Windows95 OSR2 machines with Excel 97 SP-2. Two users reported the problem

No luck with "UNIX password sync"
I was very excited when I ran across the "UNIX password sync" directive in the smb.conf!!! THAT would be convenient and really add to the making the server seamless!! Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the unix and smbpasswords to sync from changing within win95. The posts I've seen in the mailing list concerning sync have so far gone unanswered :-( I'm just looking

smbtar question?
...ar? Does it matter? Am I safer sticking with smbtar? I'm guessing that since smbtar is a wrapper around smbclient, that there might be some magic in the smbclient portion of it. Though, just doing a quick tar tvf of the tar.out file appears to work properly. Can a VM tell what host it's on?
Is there a way internal to a KVM VM to know which host it's running on? It could send a command via ssh to virsh on a host, and learn from that whether the host currently has it running. But is there something within the VM itself which will reveal this? Thanks, Whit

Drive namings...
Just wondering if there is a way to get drive namings to change according to who's logged into the network. ie. 'bob' logs into windows networking and gets... E: 'bob' on server kiwi. Now if 'sue' logs into windows networking on the same pc she gets... E: 'bob' on server kiwi. But E: contains sue's stuff. So is there a way into making 'sue'
