[install-discuss] lucreate into New ZFS pool
Hello, Since I''ve got my disk partitioning sorted out now, I want to move my BE from the old disk to the new disk. I created a new zpool, named RPOOL for distinction with the existing "rpool". I then did lucreate -p RPOOL -n new95 This completed without error, the log is at the bottom of this mail. I have not yet dared to run luactivate. I also have not yet dared set the ACTIVE flag on any partitions on the new disk (I had some interesting times with that previously). Before I complete these steps to set...

ZFS - SWAP and lucreate..
Good morning everybody I was migrating my ufs ? rootfilesystem to a zfs ? one, but was a little upset finding out that it became bigger (what was clear because of the swap and dump size). Now I am questioning myself if it is possible to set the swap and dump size by using the lucreate ? command (I wanna try it again but on less space). Unfortunately I did not find any advice in manpages. Maybe you can help me? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Recover ZFS destroyed dataset?
...y an offtopic from ZFS forum''s subject): 1) They have an OpenSolaris machine with some zones set up, each zone root being a filesystem dataset. Some zones also have delegated datasets for data. 2) The system was to be upgraded with liveupgrade. Apparently something did not go well during lucreate, so the botched ABE was ludelete''d. 3) During ludelete my colleague noticed some messages about inability to destroy some zones'' ZFS pools because they are mounted (luckily, zones were booted), and aborted the ludelete operation. Apparently, ludelete attempts to roll back and d...

luactivate: how to fix things from boot:net?
So after tinkering with lucreate and luactivate I now have several boot environments but the active one is unfortunately not bootable. How can I access the luactivate command from boot:net? boot net:dhcp -s mkdir /tmp/mnt zpool import -R /tmp/mnt rpool I poke around in /tmp/mnt but do not find usr/sbin under there. This is on...

Get your SXCE on ZFS here!
With the release of the Nevada build 90 binaries, it is now possible to install SXCE directly onto a ZFS root filesystem, and also put ZFS swap onto a ZFS filesystem without worrying about having it deadlock. ZFS now also supports crash dumps! To install SXCE to a ZFS root, simply use the text-based installer, after choosing "Solaris Express" from the boot menu on the DVD. DVD download

S10u6, zfs and zones
My server runs S10u5. All slices are UFS. I run a couple of sparse zones on a seperate slice mounted on /zones. When S10u6 comes out booting of ZFS will become possible. That is great news. However, will it be possible to have those zones I run now too? I always understood ZFS and root zones are difficult. I hope to be able to change all FS to ZFS, including the space for the sparse zones. Does

Failure to boot from zfs on Sun v880
...ear d24 # metadetach d3 d23 # metaclear d23 # metadetach d5 d25 # metaclear s25 then removed the metadb from c1d1d0s7 # metadb -d c1t1d0s7 Resized s0 on c1t1d0 to include the whole disc and relabelled with an SMI label. Created the zfs root pool: # zpool create rpool c1t1d0s0 Created new BE: # lucreate -c Sol11_b96 -n Sol11_b96_zfs -p rpool This ran fine, so I activated the new BE and rebooted # luactivate Sol11_b96_zfs # init 6 The system then panicked during the reboot with: Rebooting with command: boot Boot device: /pci at 8,600000/SUNW,qlc at 2/fp at 0,0/disk at w21000004cfaf121b,0:a Fil...

Best Practices recommendation on x4200
Greetings all- I have a new X4200 that I''m getting ready to deploy. It has four 146 GB SAS drives. I''d like to setup the box for maximum redundancy on the data stored on these drives. Unfortunately, it looks like ZFS boot/root aren''t really options at this time. The LSI Logic controller in this box only supports either a RAID0 array with all four disks, or a RAID 1

zfs root, jumpstart and flash archives
I understand that currently, at least under Solaris 10u6, it is not possible to jumpstart a new system with a zfs root using a flash archive as a source. Can anyone comment as to whether this restriction will pass in the near term, or if this is a while out (6+ months) before this will be possible? Thanks, Jerry

separate home "partition"?
(i use the term loosely because i know that zfs likes whole volumes better) when installing ubuntu, i got in the habit of using a separate partition for my home directory so that my data and gnome settings would all remain intact when i reinstalled or upgraded. i''m running osol 2008.11 on an ultra 20, which has only two drives. i''ve got all my data located in my home directory,

compression at zfs filesystem creation
Hi, I just installed 2009.06 and found that compression isn''t enabled by default when filesystems are created. Does is make sense to have an RFE open for this? (I''ll open one tonight if need be.) We keep telling people to turn on compression. Are there any situations where turning on compression doesn''t make sense, like rpool/swap? what about rpool/dump? Thanks, ~~sa
