Why does lpstat run on Solaris Samba 3.0.1?
Hello, all; I need help with getting lpstat _not_ to run. I'm running Samba 3.0.1 on a Sun Solaris 8 server to share out a few print queues, and it works a treat. I also run a print spooler & job management product called Xi-Text, which displaces several of the stock lp* binaries; their implementation of lpstat (among other progra...

excessive lpstat calls
I run a fairly busy samba server that only serves up users' home directory. I am running Samba v3.0.20 under Solaris 10 on a Sun v440. I'm seeing a large number of calls to '/usr/bin/lpstat -v'. These are probably occuring everytime a new client connects, but I'm not positive. The server does not have any printers attached to it, has no entries in /etc/printers.conf, and is not running lp services at all. I am unable to remove the lp packages from the system due to depen...

Unable to open printcap file lpstat
...e, this means that Samba has been upgraded from 2.2.8a (with UnxWare 7.1.3) to 3.0.0 (with UnixWare 7.1.4). Everything seemed to be working fine at this point. Samba was then upgraded to 3.0.10 (with maintenance pack 2), and I am now getting the following error: Unable to open printcap file lpstat for read. My smb.conf file has the following in the global section printing = bsd printcap name = lpstat load printers = yes I?m not sure why the ?printcap name? parameter is set to ?lpstat? ? I obviously got it to work that way when I originally installed Samba, but that was...

Patch for print_svid.c
Hi ! I have a patch for print_svid.c, that enhances the usage of the "printcap=lpstat" option under System V. It not only gets the names of the printers via lpstat, but also the comments from the unix printing system. It works under Solaris, and should also work with SCO. I haven't access to other System V based systems. I don't know if this list is the appropriate pla...

cups/samba integration problems
...nting system is bsd or lprng in order to use my printer accounting application. This is where all hell breaks loose. There seems to be no valid lpq command that samba can hand off to cups that reports anything that samba understands. Worse, the default lpq command (lpq -P%p) invokes (I assume) cups lpstat program. Under the right (or wrong) conditions, this has brought my server to its knees. I don't know what's wrong with lpstat but it seems to be horribly inefficient, especially when 400 windows desktops query the samba server for print queue status (which it is unable to report anyway). I...

Samba / cups problem
Hi all, I have set up a printer in cups and I can see it with lpstat -a, and I can print to it. I put what I thought was the appropriate stuff in smb.conf, and yet no printer shows up to the NT client I'm testing with, or in smbclient -L output. Any ideas at all? windows printer queue display fails
I am driving a Suse 8.2 linux with cups 1.1.18 and samba 2.2.7a. The problem: The host serves several printers via cups. If some jobs are in one of the queues "lpq -Pprinter" or "lpstat -o printer" shows up the complete listing. Fine. Connected to the same print queue from a Windows (XP/NT/98/2k) box I cannot see the complete listing. Sometimes I see some of the jobs, most of the times I don't see any. Executing "lpq -S printhost -P printer" on the W2k host give...

Samba/CUPS Windows Print Queue Not Showing Up
I have installed Samba-3.0.22 with CUPS on my Solaris 10 box. It prints fine and shows up in my CUPS queue but active print jobs in my CUPS queue don't show up in my Windows Print Driver queue on my client! I've also tried not using CUPS and having it call lpstat but it still doesn't work! When I run CUPS' lpstat in command line it can see the jobs. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
