samba3 and CUPS: lpoptions does not work
Hi, I have set up a CUPS queue in the samba server with specific lpoptions (actually, it's a queue to print 2-up on an HP LaserJet4300 printer. I used lpoptions -d NX2-118 -o number-up=2). Everything works as expected when I print from the Unix side. However, when I print to the corresponding samba queue, the options specified through lpoptions are ignored (i.e. the...

force b/w printing
Has anyone an idea, how to force users to print b/w on a color printer. We are in the process to deploy color printers to some of our offices where they use centos 5.5 as their OS. They need the printers to print some advertisement material. But for everything else, they don't need it. And because of the costs of the color printing we would like to force them to use B/W where not explicitly

Default printer environment variable
...or the client state that it reads the default printer environment variable to figure out which printer to print to on the local side. What's the default printer environment variable? $PRINTER? I'm lost on this one since I've never had to set it before. I know that I can create a ~/.lpoptions file and put the default printer in there, but that's not going to work with this IBM 5250 emulator. Any tips/help appreciated. how do I use only black ink?
I have an HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-one. As I haven't had any need for color lately, when I last replaced ink, I only replaced the black cartridge. It didn't work, even when printing grayscale-only images, even when telling print-set-up grayscale-only. Is there a way to tell my printer to use only the black ink cartridge. My test image is a handmade postscript file that only use setgray

Samba 2.2 + CUPS driver download work for anyone?
I have tried everything I could possibly think of to get printer driver download working with Samba 2.2.3a-6 and CUPS 1.1.15-4 (latest Debian unstable packages). I am wondering if anyone else has go this to work at all (with newer versions of samba or cups?) -- if so please let me know to give me some hope. Or else I am thinking this is officially 'broken'. CUPS is working perfectly

Via the printer's settings options (GUI) and there should be a drop down for color options (in the past I've set color, grayscale, black). Or you could use lpoptions https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=955786#p955786 -- ---~~.~~--- Mike // SilverTip257 //

Is there a way to set default paper size for CentOS?
I've been a Debian geek for a long time but for a work project I've started using CentOS recently. In Debian I can set the default paper size to US-Letter for the system using dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1 Is there an equivalent configuration option for CentOS? If not, what configuration files do I need to edit? Thanks! Rick

Duplex Printing
Hi People, This may be slightly off topic if so please let me know. My situation is I have a bunch of Fedora clients connecting to a CentOS Printer server (setup using cups). I have gone through and used Vendor supplied ppd files where possible. And basic printing is working. But, Duplex printing doesn't. The Printers I am using are mostly Brother / HP with a few MFD's from

CentOS 7 CUPS: where queue defaults are stored?
Dear Experts, CentOS 7 outsmarted me (again...). Could someone tell me where cups print queues' default settings are stored? In the past I was doing rather trivial thing: I was setting up prototype machine (making kickstart file based on it), then I was configuring all printers on prototype machine. After which (with cups daemon stopped) I was just packing /etc/cups (and maybe

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is

How to install programs in wine?
I am a rank newbie to Linux and wine. I am running Ubuntu Dapper on an AMD 1800 mhz machine, wine 0.9.15 Everything I have read says use the installer to load windows programs. Where is the installer? Thanks, -- Ron Thompson On the Beautiful Florida Space Coast, right beside the Kennedy Space Center, USA http://www.plansandprojects.com My hobby pages are here:
