Newage/World music stream
Just to let everyone know I'm now broadcasting an IceCast2 Ogg Vorbis stream
of my LPFM station courtesy of MediaCast1 (http://www.mediacast1.com) for 10
hours a day Monday to Friday 20:00 - 08:00 GMT.
Newage, World, Folk, Easy Listening format. 40kb/s mono.

What's best practice for serving multiple formats from a remote icecast server?
We are running an icecast2 server in conjunction with our LPFM radio
station and need a little advice.
We have been serving a single 128k ogg stream from a remote server and
would like to make additional formats available (e.g. mp3, lower
bandwidth, etc.)
I would think this has been done a few thousand times and there would be
a "best practice"...

OddcastDSP/Winamp2
...one will do the job." --- Director of ACB
Radio (http://www.acbradio.org)
For me personally, I only have a problem with OddCast when using the
SQRSoft crossfading plugin. I need to use this crossfader as there is
nothing else that works so well and sounds so professional. I use it
for my LPFM broadcast. It works fine for most configurations except
when Oddcast is set to 22khz mono which is what I prefer. Winamp2
crashes immediately. I have just ordered a DSL connection which I wish
to use for streaming but currently I can't without compromising the
sound quality and going to ster...

Frauenhofer signing off on mp3, ogg stream player for Macs?
Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits has stopped providing
licenses for MP3 technology, "[...] noting that more superior audio
formats have rendered the MP3 obsolete. Speaking to National Public
Radio (USA), the Fraunhofer Institute said AAC has since become the 'de
facto standard for music download and videos on mobile phones.' "

Live stream equalizer
...ox to use the PCM
EQ, which was always inferior.
All other input plugins do not have their own EQ code so they utilize the
PCM EQ. A common complaint until v3.0 and v2.90 was that Ogg Vorbis files
sounded flat and lifeless compared to MP3 in Winamp when using the EQ. This
was quite obvious on my LPFM station which had a fairly high treble boost
and a mixture of MP3 and OGG.
When v2.90 was released, Nullsoft switched the MPEG plugin to default to the
new PCM EQ. Now all files are equalized the same.

Synchronize listeners
Is it at all possible to synchronize listeners so they hear the audio at the
exact same time? It doesn't matter if the source and listener is a few
seconds different.
Someone I know wants to send Ogg Vorbis encoded audio across a wireless LAN
using Icecast to 2 LPFM transmitters on the same frequency, and they really
need to be closely synchronized to prevent echo in an overlap coverage area.
He could be willing to pay money towards custom development, if it is in
fact possible.
Thanks,
Ross.

...erver. I had to install a number of open source libraries and
compile darkice from source. No licence.
non-free means you build each one stand alone and can't re distribute.
Quality is excellent, and it runs on most players.
I kept some notes [see below]
I am using AAC+ to feed a couple of LPFM sites with almost zero errors
over what had been troublesome paths for mp3
HE-AAC audio v2 (with SBR + PS) is the superb audio encoder used to
encode high quality audio at really low bitrates (32 kbit/s). Quote from

Darkice "Buffer overrun": how to troubleshoot?
We're running a darkice/icecast configuration to stream our LPFM radio
station (and to provide a quick-n-dirty studio-transmitter-link). (See
config data below.)
We're getting intermittent "Buffer overrun!" errors out of darkice, and
we associate these with interruptions in our audio stream that are quite
noticeable. These occur anywhere from...

Live stream equalizer
I was under the impression that "PCM equalizer" means it only equalizes the
PCM codec, i.e. WAV files. Have you noticed a significant quality
improvement in the EQ for compressed media: MP3, Vorbis, MPC?

masking problems in Vorbis beta?
Hi all,
I just came across the following page: http://r3mix.net
In the "News" section there is a fairly negative critique of Vorbis;
especially it is mentioned that Vorbis "has terrible masking
problems". There is also a Vorbis-encoded frequency sweep
which shows strong deficiencies at high frequencies, but
I suppose this is due to the quite low bitrate of the
distributed
