WIN40 printer driver on Solaris not being installed?
...Solaris build does not appear
to install the WIN40 driver correctly with either 2.2.5 or 2.2.6pre2. (W32X86

The driver directory looks like this:

using lpadmin to add printers in CentOS 7 (v. CentOS 6)
In CentOS 6, I could do:
lpinfo -m
then pick the model I want and put it as the option to -m in lpadmin
(line wrapped):
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p printer -o printer-is-shared=false -o Duplex=None
-o Resolution=600dpi -m 'gutenprint.5.2://pcl-g_5e/expert Generic
PCL 5e Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.5' -v 'socket://mydomain.edu'
Alas, in CentOS 7, no matter what I do, I always get:

printers lpadmin and puppet
Has anyone written a custom type to handle printers via lpadmin?
Managing printers right is ithe single biggest PITA on my CentOS boxes
since RH decide to remove the CLI interface. lpadmin works but usign
that from exec seems like a waste. Making a type for it seems like it
would be easy ( I say, while not knowing a thing about ruby). The main

I was used (in SambaNT/OpenLDAP) to put on CUPS configuration the

Printing with CUPS and PDF
Trying to get one Samba server to serve several printers through CUPS
and host a virtual PDF "printer" at the same time. I've gotten them
working separately, but not together, and I think I know why.
In the smb.conf man page under "print command":
"With printing = cups, and if SAMBA is compiled against libcups, any
manually set print command will be ignored."

can't create printers after upgrading cups
After upgrading cups on my CentOS 6 systems from version 1.4.2-72.el6 to 1.4.2-77.el6, I am no longer able to create working printers, either with lpadmin from the command line or with system-config-printer.
When I try to run lpadmin, I get this simple error:
[root at vlsi66 ~]# lpadmin -p newprinter -v lpd://printserver/serverqueue-E -P /path/to/ppd/thing.ppd
lpadmin: Unknown

someone suggested I should use lp, so I thought I'd give this a go at

The printers are TCP/IP on Axis print servers. I've set them up in
UnixWare as type 'other' and routing through to the correct IP address.
A SCO person told me to do the following
lpadmin -p <printer-name> -I "pcl raw"

He then said to run 'lpadmin -p -l | pg' to check the filter is
available, but I don't know what this is supposed to do - I get an error

NSS and group enumeration in CUPS...
Hai Marco,
What i did, i added 1 real linux user in the group unix group lpadmin.
With this user i configured the webinterface and set kerberos auth.
( i did already setup ssl things like that for the webinterface. )
Get this file.

This shows you all groups and privileges that are setup.

rpcclient and setdriver
Hello,
I'm trying to use rpcclient 'setdriver' as an unprivileged user; a
special lpadmin user with very limited rights has been created, and
ownership of the location of driver files (/home/PrintDrivers) given to him.
when executing the smbclient and rpc commands like cupsaddsmb does,
nearly everything works fine, except the last command:

Doubts about sharing a winprinter
Hi there,
I own a domestic lan with two computers, mine and my mother's one. Mine is called GREENDEMON and the other one is called BLUEDEMON and they both are configured to run on the REDLOCAL workgroup. I've Debian Woody running on GREENDEMON and Windows 98 running on BLUDEMON, with an attached Nec Silentwriter Superscript 610 printer. This printer is only compatible with Windows 9x

winki article contribution
Dave Fernandes
I propose a much needed article on using cups from the command line.?
This article, fully written and used by myself will automate the
process of adding printers to any desktop or server just by running a
script file.? It will teach you lpadmin, lpstat, how to setup and
install drivers for printers and how to automate the process.
I find
this useful on client sites (who love linux of course) to automate
installing printers.? I find the graphic tools way too time consuming.
Location is up to you.? Here is the article.

CUPS and system-config-printer question
I was tasked with migrating a bunch of printer entries from one box to another.
What I did is I got a list of printer names along with IP addresses and using the CUPS
lpadmin -p printer-name -E -v lpd://IP_ADDR/lp
I loaded them onto the new machine running RHEL 4.6.
Printer tests show that it works fine. And if I use the CUPS web interface at
http://localhost:631
Everything shows up.
But if I launch the RH (and presumably CentOS works the same way)

When creating an HP printer say:
lpadmin -p <HP-printer-name> -I "simple,postscript,pcl"
Then set:
print command = lp -c -d %p -T pcl %s; rm %s
IE: declare all samba jobs of type pcl and all HPs capable of type pcl.
Instead of the lpadmin...

Cups printers autoloading and windows drivers
Hello samba team !
I have configured a samba4 printer with CUPS as backend. And I have
enabled the "load printers = yes" option in smb.conf.
Nearly everything works well !
-> Samba detect the CUPS printers
-> The printers appear automatically in the "printers" share
-> On windows 7 I can add the server the printmanagement.msc and I see
the printers
-> I can upload
