Loess with more than 4 predictors / offsets
Hello,
Does anyone know of an R version of loess that allows more than 4
predictors and/or allows the specification of offsets? For that matter,
does anyone know of _any_ version of loess that does either of the
things I mention?
Thanks,

The eigen function
...cal quirk of the code; it must do things differently when it has to
compute eigenvectors than it does when only computing eigenvalues. It's
easily checked that the exact eigenvalues are 1250 and 0. Can one of the
developers tell me whether this should be regarded as a bug or not?

SHLIB

character vector, I still get a syntax error. Does anyone know if they're
are supposed to be quotes somewhere in there? If someone has an example of
this command that's worked, I'd appreciate it.

Fortran DLLs
...internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I'm assuming I'm missing some perl files or libraries that are needed to make either Rcmd or SHLIB work. Where do I get them and what directory do I install them to? (ci3int.f is a FORTRAN source file.)
Thanks for your help,

Loading libraries in 2.0.0 (PR#7364)

A window with the list of functions in package repeated appears. Has anyone
else had problems with this? I couldn't find anything in the Changes file
for 2.0.0 that looked like it would be responsible for this.

R on UNIX Sun-Solaris 10.0 vs. S-Plus
...any reason to prefer one over the other
considering ONLY installation and updating issues? I don't have
experience with R on UNIX, but I'm guessing that it's not much (if any)
more difficult to maintain than S-Plus. I'd appreciate input from anyone
who has experience.

RNG in R
...link to the C code and call the RNG, we haven't been able to
find the files that update the value of .Random.seed. Does anyone know
exactly which files and libraries in the source code are necessary for the
RNG to work proplerly? We want to avoid using the entire R installation.

Line types in the legend function
...;_ in the _plot_ function. When you enter _type='b'_ as a
parameter in the plot function, you get an alternating series of dashes and
points. The closest I can come to duplicating this is to get the dash and
point lying on top of each other in the legend box. Any suggestions?

The function 'any' (PR#2503)
Full_Name: Paul Louisell
Version: 1.6.2

There is a slight bug in the function 'any'. Given a logical vector (possibly
including values of 'NA'), the default action of any should be as follows:
(i) at least one value = T should return T
(ii) NO values...

compiler usage after successful UNIX build
...d) understanding was that once the binaries
are created, the compiler is not used unless you're doing another build,
e.g., compiling source code for a package. Does R ever compile routines
during execution? Does it depend on how the installation was done?
Thanks for your help with this.

Question about computing offsets automatically
...4 B D 1 1
Does such an option exist somewhere in R (I wasn't able to find it in the
documentation for the table, xtabs, as.data.frame.table, or glm functions)?
I can obtain the Off column easily enough in a simple loop, but I thought
there might be an option for this somewhere.

I've found a problem with either the 'apply' or 'is.factor' functions, and it
seems like it might be cause for concern. Here are the commands taken directly

64-bit R build with Studio 12 on Sparc v9
...4 Linux. The references
to Solaris 9 used the Sun Forte 7 compilers.
My ultimate question: Does anyone know how to successfully build a
64-bit target for R-2.6.1 using Studio 12 on a system with my
architecture? If not using Studio 12, how about Studio 11?
Thanks in advance for any help,

Studio 11 compiling of Rmath standalone versus compiling R
...ithout mixing compilers on this machine, i.e., I don't want to use gcc and Studio 11 together. Is there some way to get Studio 11 to compile the standalone library by altering the makefile?
Thanks for any advice/explanation people can offer. I'm a newcomer to compiling code on UNIX.
