ftable as latex (with Hmisc?)
Dear List, possibly called Frank, I tried to create an ftable lookalike of the following data set in LaTeX/Sweave with summary(formula,..), but I could not get it to work for count tables; numeric tables work fine. summary(formula,...,fun="table") does not give the full cross breakdown. Other suggestions welcome. Note that in the output there should be em...

bugged mount with Synology as client.
Hi, I have some weird issue I don't know how to tackle. When I share a folder from a Unix (Linux) machine using a current version of Samba (smbd) and I mount it on an older Synology (2.6.32) the reading of files goes fine. However all files I create get the chacacters #EF80AF affixed to the filename, which is a Unicode code point for private extensions, or something of the kind.

The Talking Moose
Anyone here remember the old Talking Moose desktop toy from the 80's? For the unitiated, the Talking Moose was a simple applet on old Mac computers that periodically displayed an animated Bullwinkle-lookalike moose in the corner of the screen, spouting witty phrases or biting insults, as well as commenting on various activities like opening and closing programs or inserting disks. (The moose's behavior was highly customizable.) He's not for everybody, but I miss the guy. Lo and behold, the proj...

[Flac-users] Problems with configure
...ib/xmms/Input/ (Nat?rlich!). Now, thankfully I have the root-password to this machine (since it's my workstation at home), but if I hadn't had it (like at work), it would've been much harder to build the xmms-module. And so, another thing. Is there any flac123 (like ogg123's mpg123-lookalike) or are anyone working on one? Finally, encouragement (mandatory): GOOD WORK! I haven't toyed with it much yet, but so far I really like what I've seen! It will definitely be useful to compress my liverecordings. :> -- Martin Persson martin@kfib.org http://martin.kfib.org/...

If I installed and tested against Ubuntu, how useful would that be in general and in this specific case? I think we've seen a few reports of issues with the newer 3024 protocols and I'd like to help get them sorted out. I have a lot of friends / users who use Windows 7 and are happy enough. This means I have to support Windows 7. I get annoyed when I have to use Win8 or Win10 because of the *improvements* that MS have made to the UI. A large number of my friends / users are in the same boat, an...

kate and W3C timed text
Hi ogg.k, I've just been asked what the difference was between Kate and the W3C timed text format (http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/TT/) and whether there was any compatibility. It migjht be a question and answer to add to the OggKate wiki page. Cheers, Silvia.

rsync with (f)locks
...when using the inetd (or xinetd) daemon approach to running rsync, by adding a line for inetd something like the following to /etc/inetd.conf (as per the rsyncd.conf man page): rsync stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/rsync rsyncd --daemon but replacing /usr/bin/rsync with the path to your rsync-lookalike wrapper, which in this case would be a C/C++ -code program which seizes a lock, forks off rsync, waits for rsync to complete, then releases the lock. Thanks

Gameplay asks for the second CD
Wing Commnader Prophecy (multiple CD's) install doesn't give any problem (due to its small pop-up format window) and the game plays well until I come to the next CD. Game grabs full screen 800x600 svga. Pop-up window for second CD appears, but I can not switch with <Alt><Tab> to desktop. What did I already try? Read lots of items on this forum :D

Set CALLERID(num) to a specific number only if ${CALLERID(num)} is not an NANP number
Im trying to figure out the base way to check the callerID being sent to my Asterisk box and use it if it is a valid NANP number, but replace it with a static NANP number if it is not. (Why? I have a few carriers that require this, and a few international users - if it happens to take one of the carriers that require it, I want it to set a static number that is valid). I'm playing
