When I login to a Win7 machine in DC3s site/network, it always gets

I use the following command on the Win7 machine to verify the logonserver

Problem with netlogon\logon.bat not mapping all drives
...erver to a newer
samba-3.0.23c server on Centos5, I have the strange problem that my XP
clients no longer map all the drives listed in the logon.bat during logon,
however if I run logon.bat manually after I'm logged in, all drives are
mapped fine.
My logon.bat file:
@echo off

NET USE * /DEL /YES
NET USE H: %LOGONSERVER%\%USERNAME%
NET USE I: %LOGONSERVER%\drivers
NET USE P: %LOGONSERVER%\public
NET USE S: %LOGONSERVER%\software
The only drive that sometimes gets mapped at login is S: the last one in the
list.
My suspicion is that samba is not resp...

%LOGONSERVER% variable in netlogon/Default User folder redirection
...docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold )
I'm using folder redirection so I have a NTUSER.DAT file in the
"netlogon" directory on the logon server (the primary domain controler),
which I edited with regedit to set up some folders so that they point to
the logon server by using the %LOGONSERVER% variable, and it seems it
doesn't work if I change this variable for the logon server netbios
name.
The thing is that the users data is in the Primary Domain Controler, and
when they log in byt the Backup Domain Controler this variable becames
the netbios name of the Backup Domain Control...

Seems the root of the difficulty is that the Windows clients are only partially joined to the new server PDC. Plugging them into the former PDC server restores full functionality.

Windows 10
Hello
We have a problem with our Windows 10 Clients.
Installed on a SLES12 Server is samba v4.4
I can bind the clients to the domain without any problem. Afterwards I want to login in the domain, I get the error,
no logonserver available
I can change in the smb conf max protocol to NT1 -> now it is possible to login with user xxx in the domain
We don't want to use our samba server with the NT1 setting, so I will delete this setting
Now it is still possible to login with user xxx , but if I want to login with...

Force logonserver in samba4
Hi everybody.
We have a samba4 domain deployed across serveral countries. Some of them
(overseas) have a poor VPN connection with mainland.
Since Samba4 does not support (yet) subtrees, we have deployed a DC in
each location for domain validation. However users in mainland logon
randomly at overseas location and sometimes this is a problem due to low
bandwidth available.
Is there any way to

I am happy to accept any suggestions here. There is no point in having multiple DNS servers for Windows or another DC joined for failover if none of it works as it is supposed to.

Winbind is definitely running on both DCs and I followed the Wiki instructions to the letter.

Samba4: variables in profilePath
Hi,
I have a domain with several Samba4 servers installed in different
locations. I need to use roaming profile but the only way that I get
them working is using fixed profile path. I need to use variables,
because sometimes users move from one location to another.
I've tried with:
%LOGONSERVER%/profiles/user
//%LOGONSERVER%/profiles/user
%SERVERNAME%/profiles/user
//%SERVERNAME%/profiles/user
and nothing. Windows 7 complains that it can't find the profile. If I
use a real server name, it works fine.
I need to found a way to store the user profile in the nearest server.

GPO redirected folders reg path issue
We are not much off. But you have mixed "samba/window" and "windows/windows" settings.
Samba/windows \\%logonserver%\home\%username%\desktop
Windows/windows \\hostname.fqdn.tld\users\%username%\desktop
Guess, which one i use. ;-)
Now, do get where this is coming from.
So use this (add CNAME for you member server ), Note, you MUST setup PTR records.
\\ALIAS-CNAME.fqdn.tld\users\%username%\desktop

...ed. Until it happens again which is very
disruptive and one of those recurring issues we all live to hate.
So...How is it possible that the GPO isn't respected under whatever
circumstance is occurring to cause this? I guess I'm also wondering if
there is such a thing as to redirect to the %logonserver% if the path fails
maybe? What's odd (and this is obviously circumstantial) I can always
navigate to the users redirected folders using the path(copy/paste) that is
supposed to be applied in the GPO in question. So I can only conclude that
somehow during a brief period of time the path was pe...

PDC & file server on same machine?
...s.
I'm looking for opinions on whether I'm asking for performance problems by
making my file server the PDC. Actually, this machine is already serving as
PDC but its not in production yet as a file server. So right now, its just
the domain PDC. When I log into the domain and "echo %logonserver%", it
shows that one of the BDCs was the logon server, not the PDC. It doesn't
look like the PDC has to do anything but handle joining machines to the
domain.
