Basic Setup Problem

My problem is this: I'm trying to set up John Terpstra's Example 1.2.1 from his Samba by Example (I told you this was basic), but when I run smbclient -L lerver0 -Uroot%password (the real one), all I get is NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. smbclient -L localhost U% works correctly. Testparm indicates the smb.conf is at least syntactically correct. ps indicates that smbd and nmbd are both running. Finally, I've confirmed that root is in smbpasswd and has the same password and the overall Linux box (I've even reset it...

Trouble finding all smb shares on network
Hi, just joined the list and know very little about smb. I'm trying to do something that should be simple, but my current solution isn't working 100% All I need is a list of smb shares on the network. I'm doing this: /usr/bin/nmblookup -M -- - and then use this on each ip returned: /usr/bin/smbclient -g -p 139 -NL <ip addr> That works for most cases but it fails to find

Hi again, as I am finally back working on the problem, I add the smb.conf in the hope somebody can see what I am doing wrong. Samba Version is 3.0.14a from Debian Sarge.
