NFS
I've finally managed to run Dovecot without errors in two computers with
maildir and indexes stored in NFS. I added a page to wiki about this:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/NFS
Suggestions how to keep attribute cache enabled but to allow Dovecot to
specifically request not to use a cached value (when it's important)
would be welcome.

Is it possible to use quorum for CTDB to prevent split-brain and removing lockfile in the cluster file system
Hello list,
We know that CTDB uses lockfile in the cluster file system to prevent
split-brain.
It is a really good design when all nodes in the cluster can mount the
cluster file system (e.g. GPFS/GFS/GlusterFS) and CTDB can work happily in
this assumption.
However, when split-brain happens, the disconnected private network
violates this ass...

Need a cross-platform lockfile algorithm

- Linux local disk access.
- Windows local disk access.
No doubt each of those combinations has many variations.
I only need advisory locking, not mandatory locking; a lockfile
convention would be fine. I'm hoping that something like the algorithm
used by liblockfile could be used (see man lockfile_create, e.g.
http://pwet.fr/man/linux/fonctions_bibliotheques/lockfile_create).
Basically it creates a file with a unique name, links it to the

overnight clients causing lockfiles to be converted to root-owned messages on debian lenny
Greetings all,
After running for more than a year without issue on debian lenny while
it was in the testing- we're now experiencing problems under
Lenny/Stable.
Dovecot now converts some sort of lockfile into messages, and they're
owned by root. The result is a mess; clients can't read their
mailboxes with the root-owned files, and when the file is changed to
be owned by them, many mail clients don't like the zero-length message

"LockFile not implemented in server" messages on a Samba share
I'm trying to run a Visual FoxPro 6 application that writes to a Samba
share. It crashes with "LockFile not implemented in server" and
"UnlockFile not implemented in server" messages. I've attached a more
complete log file to this message.
On the Samba server, there aren't any special locking restrictions: for
example, oplocks are allowed.
Any ideas will be welcome.

RFE: Lockfile option for use in cronjobs
Hi,
Looking for an easy way to prevent a repetitive rsync to be running
multiple times, I was wondering if it could be useful to have an option
like:
--pidfile /some/path/rsync-mirror-org.pid
So that rsync can be run directly from cron without requiring a wrapper
script to do pidfile handling.
This way rsync on startup could check the pid-file, see if another rsync
is using this pid, and

Dear Colleagues,
I use exim's appendfile transport, procmail and a local mutt on my

rsync big file
Hi,
I have a cron job to rsync one directory from one server to another
every 5 minutes. There are some really big files. So it happens when
the second instance of rsync tries to copy the same file when the
first instance is not done yet. It drives my CPU crazy on the source
server. Is there a way to avoid this problem?
Thanks,

[PATCH 0/3] RFC: appliance flavours
Hi,
this is a prototype of something I've around for some time.
Basically it is about adding new appliances in addition to the main
one currently used and kept up-to-date automatically: this way it is
possible to create new appliances with extra packages, to be used in
specific contexts (like virt-rescue, with more network/recovery tools)
without filling the main appliance.
It's still

psp on SuSE 10.0: free(): invalid pointer
...After a few seconds, this program dies with no output and no messages in

I launched PSP in verbose mode:

No "nut" messages in /var/log/messages.
Is there a deeper debug mode for psp which will help pin down the invalid
