rsync over ssh - possible attack vectors
Hello everybody!
First my setup:
I connect from Debian Lenny to Ubuntu Karmic with a command like:
user1 at localserver:$ rsync -rtcve ssh user1 at remoteserver:/.../ /local/.../
(using default versions of ssh and rsync in the vendor repos,
ssh with password authentication)
As far as I understand if localserver got compromised an
attacker could read the password and then get full access
to remoteserver as user1.

But on Solaris 10, I can only use 3.6 because OpenCSW ships only 3.6.

OT: Canada's Primus introduces SIP localserv ice
If you look at the specs on the Dlink box that Primus gives you, you will
see that it is SIP.
I am sure Primus has a SIP platform because we have played with it. We
managed to use it on MSN's SIP phone as well as couple Zultys ZIP2x2
hard phones. Their PC-Phone app is also a SIP soft phone. If you are
registering to sip.iprimus.net then it is definitely their SIP platyform
not MGCP.

Noob help with backup command syntax
Hi guys:
I'm new to rsync. I have downloaded and read sevral how-to snippits,
and the man pages. I got a little confused though trying to figure
out how to do what I need.
Can someone show me the syntax for doing the following:?
Given:
localserver = server that has data I want backed up, and I'm logged in
as root on it
remoteserver = server where the data is to go, into it's
/home/testuser/backup directory.
I understood the examples and basics of getting one file, can someone
tell me how to backup a list of files, and a list of dire...

Carrying context from one server to another?
The relevant part of my setup is something like:
SIP phones -> local server -> remote server -> SIP-to-PSTN provider
I want _some_ of the SIP phones on the local server to be able to get
access to SIP-to-PSTN, but not all of them. The local-to-remote
connection is IAX2 over VPN.
Do I need to set up two separate IAX2 connections, one "privileged" and
the other not, or can I

Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
Hi
I am installing CentOS4 over ether network using http and kickstart. I boot from
the first CentOS CD and at "boot:" prompt I input
"ks=http://localserver/install/custom.cfg". Except for minor glitches like
"Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is
almost completely automated.
Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS directory to install
additional packages in the default install. In prepa...

URGENT: Tricky rsync problem
...the files from a directory on the remote server to a local server and then when the files are complete, move them to a public directory on the local server.
To move the files from the remote server, I successfully tried using the following command:
rsync -avz ftp.servername.com::roush/inbound/* /localserver/directory
I am running this command from the local server. The command is correctly moving the files from the remote to the local server. I am not sure I am using the correct switches but it is working.
Here are the problems that I need to solve:
1. The rsync command must update the local fi...

IPv6 link-local address support with Samba4
Hello Samba Community,
I've couple of questions regarding IPv6 link-local address support with
Samba4.
Is Samba4 suppose to listen on IPv6 link-local address?
With following lines in smb.conf, smbd listens on IPv4 and IPv6 global
address but not on IPv6 link-local address assigned on eth0.
bind interfaces only = yes
interfaces = lo eth0
On the same Linux box, Samba-3.5 used

Is LDAP + Kerberos without Active Directory no longer supported?
I have a server that runs stand-alone with an LDAP directory and a KDC .
The linux machines have sssd to allow unified users etc. The clients are
mostly MacOS and Windows machines that aren't part of an AD.
This config has worked for 15 years, but after upgrading Debian and
bringing in Samba Version 4.17.7-Debian it seems to be broken.
