Sieve fileinto and year/month folders.
Hi there,
I am trying to move from lmtpd (lmtpd.sf.net) to dovecot sieve.
One thing used by some of powerusers are archiving mail automatically
with autocreated folders based on year + month.
Is there any good way to make that with sieve...
One example
require "fileinto";
if address :is ["From", "To"] &...

...ovecot's design as a whole, not the details of the plugin itself, to get the big picture ? I assume the plugins are loaded in a loop at dovecot startup, or at login, or when mail is delivered via lda/lmtp ? in the particular case of the quota plugin I assume the quota functions are called from LMTPD (since this is how I configured postfix to talk to dovecot) ? should I look in LMTPD's source code to find the function that calls the plugin ?

Mailboxes on NFS or iSCSI
Hello,
we are running Dovecot (2.2.13-12~deb8u1) on Debian stable. Configured
with Mailbox++, IMAP, POP3, LMTPD, Managesieved, ACL. Mailboxes are on
local 1.2TB RAID, it's about 5310 accounts.
We are slowly getting out of space and we are considering to move
Mailboxes onto Netapp disk array with two independent network connections.
Are there some pitfalls? Not sure we should use NTP or iSCSI mounts...

Large subjects increase memory-usage and enlarge index-files
Several times we already had the problems, that accounts with more the
1.3 or 1.7 billion e-mails in one folder run out-of-memory, even if
vsize_limit of 750 MB is set.
In this case, the lmtpd-process haven't been able to allocate more
memory to read/write/update the index-files and crashed (and the
index-files become corrupted at the end.)

so just configure dovecot lmtpd to listen on a TCP port, port 24 is
reserved for that - and don't open the port for any other machine as the
postfix server

LMTP with virtual and system users
...mail and also several SQL virtual users
only for mail.
With the virtual users, everything works fine. Mail is delivered via
LMTP and also sieve works :)
The SQL Lookup knows what to do with username at domain.com
The problem is the system user. If exim delivers the mail to the lmtp
socket, the LMTPd can't find username at local.host
I would be able to specify the global auth_username_format=%n but then
my SQL queries break and I like the possibility to have xx at domain1.com
and xx at domain2.com routed to two different accounts.
As I have seen in the source, I can't specify usernam...

Best way to migrate from qmail-ldap's autoreply?
...hich is a base64 encoded multiline string*
- mailreplystart and mailreplystop, unix dates
I'm wondering how this could be handled with Dovecot (2.0) in the most
easier way.
All I could find out so far:
- patching the code
- writing a plugin (it it possible to get these LDAP attributes in the
LMTPd with a single userdb-lookup and get it from the plugin during a
new mail event? Any examples?)
- conditionally provide these values to a sieve script and process them
accordingly (the base64 string and maybe the dates seem to be hard for
the first glimpse)
the mad stuff:
- using an LD_PRELOAD li...

Converting CLIENT_MAIL_DATA_MAX_INMEMORY_SIZE to a configurable?
Hi,
Currently Dovecot's LMTPd writes incoming emails to mail_temp_dir if
it's bigger than 128k. But I would like to spare those unnecessary
operations (creating a file, deleting it, writing into it, reading from
it, checking whether there is free space and if not, rejecting
(temporarily) the message). Memory is cheap, d...

Any news on ZFS bug 6535172?
We''re running a Cyrus IMAP server on a T2000 under Solaris 10 with
about 1 TB of mailboxes on ZFS filesystems. Recently, when under
load, we''ve had incidents where IMAP operations became very slow. The
general symptoms are that the number of imapd, pop3d, and lmtpd
processes increases, the CPU load average increases, but the ZFS I/O
bandwidth decreases. At the same time, ZFS filesystem operations
become very slow. A rewrite of a small file can take two minutes.
We''ve added memory; this was an improvement, but the incidents
continued. The next ste...
