sip extension compromised, need help blocking brute force attempts
Hello, yesterday one of the extensions on my asterisk server got
compromised by brute-force attack. The attacker used it to try pull an
identity theft scam playing a recording from a bank "your account has
been blocked due to unusual activity, please call this number..."
Attacker managed to make lots of calls for around 8 hours before I
detected it and changed the password for that

SIP 420
Hi;
I am running asterisk 1.6 from Fonality (Trixbox PRO).
I am trying to initiate a call FROM a softphone client to asterisk (either
an internal 4 digit extension call) or an outside line via a SIP trunk.
In both cases, asterisk rejects the call with a 420.
In this case, it?s a call from x3992 to x4415
Does this require a change on the softphone for x-call-detail?

Hoaglin Outlier Method
I am a new user of R so please bear with me. I have reviewed some R books,
FAQs and such but the volume of material is great. I am in the process of
porting my current SAS and SVS Script code to Lotus Approach, R and
WordPerfect.
My question is, can you help me determine the best R method to implement
the Hoaglin Outlier Method? It is used in the Appendix A and B of the fo
llowing link.

Incoming SIP calls with different signaling and RTP IP addresses
Hello,
I use Asterisk CVS-v1-0-12/21/04-11:05:29 and I noticed that when we
receive calls from a partner's IP address (who has a static host entry
in the sip.conf file) but the RTP comes from a different address than
the signaling, our * sends a 403 forbidden message and drops the call.
This problem does not llow us to receive calls from SIP proxies.
Was this fixed in newer versions of

Samba Connection Problem
I've just set up samba for a small LAN. I'm running samba 2.2.7 on RH 8. Now I have a real problem that I have no clue on. I have VERY intermittent connectivity
to the Samba server. If I left a computer (Windows 98) idle for a while, and then try to browse the contents in the Samba server, I will get this error " domain is unavailable" or "The specified network name is no

New Firefly version
As Promised, I've released a new version of Firefly (ver 1.8) with IAX &
SIP support back in.
Get it from Virbiage site or here's the direct link
http://www.virbiage.com/firefly/download/firefly-thirdparty.exe
If it crashes on startup, export your Firefly tree from the registry
(current user -> software -> firefly), then delete tree from your
registry. If that fixes it, send
