Updated 2.2.8a to 3.0.7-1 and Cups went South
Mates,
On my Suse 9.0 pro installation, I updated Samba from 2.2.8a to 3.0.7.
The upgrade went flawlessly, Samba is happily sharing all the files it was
before. However, I can no longer print via cups. I have a HP LJ4 attached to
the Linux box that worked great before the upgrade. I have 2 XP clients. Now
from the Windows side, I get the printer status showing 'access denied,
unable to connect' I can browse all the shares without problems.
A tail of /var/log shows:

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with
JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a
time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the
samba client does not get an error message, but
the job gets lost. :( I would like the print
jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an
active print job or when the printer is off-line.
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd.

Monitoring/controlling the print spool
...int jobs too well; The server spool simply swallows print jobs. What
should be the set up to let an MS user (95/wfw) monitor ("lpq") and control

Here is my stanza for the printer and the entry in printcap:

CUPS driver for an HP LJ M602?
We just got two of these HP LJ M602 "enterprise" printers in, and I'm
trying to work out what driver/ppd. The model's not listed in the current
- does anyone know what might work for it? I really don't want to have to
install hplips on 140 or 150 systems....

3.0.7 - NT Create AndX Response, Error:, QUERY_PATH_INFO, Error:
I noticed your comments on the samba web site about the performance
issue you were experiencing with the delay in opening files. I am
having similar issues when accessing files off the server, I was
wondering if you ever found a resolution or cause to the problem. The
strange thing is that I have two identical computers and am experiencing
the issue only on one.

Printing issue
I'm trying to setup a print server for Samba clients to use. I have a HP
LaserJet 4 connected to /dev/lp0 and I'm using the LPRng spooling package.
Documents printed from Windows clients make it to the printer. However the
printed documents, mostly Excel/Word documents, have various abberations on
them. Graphical flaws, the text seems fine. In addition I seem to get 2
copies for some

Prints ok, but says "Access denied, unable to connect". win2k and samba 2.2.1a
I have a small Samba 2.2.1a plus Win2k workgroup. Samba is running on
Redhat
7.2.
There is a networked laserjet 5000 using a static IP which I can print
to
successfuly from the linux box, and from the win2k workstations via the
queue
on the linux box.
The weird thing is that, on the win2k worksations, if I double click on
the
printer icon the status of the printer is reported as

SWAT issue
I have had a RH5.2 server running Samba up for a long time. I upgraded to
Mandrake 6.0. It broke Samba, so I reinstalled using the RPM on the CD.
Samba works just fine, but SWAT will not! If I try to start it manually
(/usr/sbin/swat) it just hangs.
In /etc/services I have a line like this:
swat 901/tcp
In /etc/inetd.conf I have:
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root

Re: CentOS Digest, Vol 38, Issue 15
...ely and never comes back. I went back to 7.9 and
it all works perfectly. I've seen from other comments that I am not
alone here, but I have no idea what's going on, other than it doesn't
work. I use CUPS and have a Minolta PagePro 1100 laser printer that
works great with the foomatic lj4 driver in everything else.
YMMV.

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
