Updated 2.2.8a to 3.0.7-1 and Cups went South
Mates, On my Suse 9.0 pro installation, I updated Samba from 2.2.8a to 3.0.7. The upgrade went flawlessly, Samba is happily sharing all the files it was before. However, I can no longer print via cups. I have a HP LJ4 attached to the Linux box that worked great before the upgrade. I have 2 XP clients. Now from the Windows side, I get the printer status showing 'access denied, unable to connect' I can browse all the shares without problems. A tail of /var/log shows: Sep 21 23:45:14 skyline smbd[6803]: [...

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Monitoring/controlling the print spool

CUPS driver for an HP LJ M602?
We just got two of these HP LJ M602 "enterprise" printers in, and I'm trying to work out what driver/ppd. The model's not listed in the current - does anyone know what might work for it? I really don't want to have to install hplips on 140 or 150 systems.... mark

3.0.7 - NT Create AndX Response, Error:, QUERY_PATH_INFO, Error:
I noticed your comments on the samba web site about the performance issue you were experiencing with the delay in opening files. I am having similar issues when accessing files off the server, I was wondering if you ever found a resolution or cause to the problem. The strange thing is that I have two identical computers and am experiencing the issue only on one. Sincerely, Frank Damen IT

Printing issue
I'm trying to setup a print server for Samba clients to use. I have a HP LaserJet 4 connected to /dev/lp0 and I'm using the LPRng spooling package. Documents printed from Windows clients make it to the printer. However the printed documents, mostly Excel/Word documents, have various abberations on them. Graphical flaws, the text seems fine. In addition I seem to get 2 copies for some

Prints ok, but says "Access denied, unable to connect". win2k and samba 2.2.1a
I have a small Samba 2.2.1a plus Win2k workgroup. Samba is running on Redhat 7.2. There is a networked laserjet 5000 using a static IP which I can print to successfuly from the linux box, and from the win2k workstations via the queue on the linux box. The weird thing is that, on the win2k worksations, if I double click on the printer icon the status of the printer is reported as "Access

SWAT issue
I have had a RH5.2 server running Samba up for a long time. I upgraded to Mandrake 6.0. It broke Samba, so I reinstalled using the RPM on the CD. Samba works just fine, but SWAT will not! If I try to start it manually (/usr/sbin/swat) it just hangs. In /etc/services I have a line like this: swat 901/tcp In /etc/inetd.conf I have: swat stream tcp nowait.400 root

Re: CentOS Digest, Vol 38, Issue 15
...ely and never comes back. I went back to 7.9 and it all works perfectly. I've seen from other comments that I am not alone here, but I have no idea what's going on, other than it doesn't work. I use CUPS and have a Minolta PagePro 1100 laser printer that works great with the foomatic lj4 driver in everything else. YMMV. mhr ------------------------------ Message: 84 Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2008 18:35:18 -0500 From: Les Mikesell <lesmikesell at gmail.com> Subject: Re: [CentOS] ext3 errors (md device related?) Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
