Configuring icecast for lowest buffering/latency
Hi, I'm using Icecast on a windows pc as a "gobetween" to output from a streaming encoder, bounce it of an icecast server locally on the workstation and then being picked up from the local icecast server and relayed on again. (I'm using liveCaster from www.live.com as it allows me to send the audio stream as UDP which is more efficient than HTTP streaming - unfortunately it does not accept audio directly from the windows app [Simplecast], but reads an http stream, which is why I need icecast in the middle as the glue to hold it together!)...

Icecast-1
...ancient versions of icecast (possibly for historic preservation), download icecast 1.3.12. Note that this is deprecated and unsupported. } I have a project whereby it is required to multicast audio streams. I'm so much interested with icecast-2 , but it doesn't support multicast. The 'LiveCaster" application can multicast audio streams from icecast, but it can only multicast mp3 audio streams. So, it can't be used with icecast-2 as icecast-2 streams Ogg Vorbis streams.

chopped audio problem
I do use metadate since i need people to see the titles. I use livecast in mixer mode. The chopping starts right away I don't use VBR (I commented it out at least). The mp3's are made with XING audiocatalyst (for windows) so I don't really know. Sorry. Arvid ----- Original Message ----- From: Jack Moffitt <jack@icecast.org> To: <icecast@xiph.org...

broadcast FM radio
Hi. I want to broadcast FM radio. Can i pass data directly from my radio card to livecast and finally to my server, or must i pass data in the sound card after the radio card and before liveice? Configuring icecast for lowest buffering/latency
...t the http streaming on the local > box introduces? as far as I know, icecast and liveice have the smallest influence on the delay in that chain. The biggest delay is produced by the client player's buffer. Have your checked this out? Why do you need such a low latency? Why do you consider livecaster's stream being more efficient than the HTTP-Stream? Actually, after the HTTP-Header there are just raw MP3-Data. In comparision to that, livecaster puts these MP3-Data into an RTP-protokoll, which produces more overhead than 'raw' http. And you may be faced random packet loss. Or do...

*Real* real time streaming (no delay/latency)?
Hello Does anyone have experience with _real_ real time streaming - i.e. with very little delay/latency? I need to stream from point A to point B in near-CD quality via a 100 Mbit network. That is easily done using icecast. But here is the tricky bit: I want as little delay in the signal as possibble - preferrably below 50ms! I have made a test setup encoding on and serving from an 800 MHz

reload icecast without losing source
Hi, i've just added a new mount point to my icecast config file. I want to activate this mount point and i need to reload the icecast proccess to do so (?) but i don't want to loose the active source streams. How can i do this? Does icecast reload it's config file once in a while? Does it auto reconnect active streams? regards, jappe --- >8 ---- List archives:

I guess I don't understand what you are trying to do. Are you trying to stream an existing FM station over shoutcast? Assuming you are running a UNIX-like OS like *BSD or Linux,...

chopped audio problem
Hi, I use liveice/icecast on a linux box redhat 6 (2.2.18) and my problem is that the streamed audio gets chopped -on the LAN!!! The audio is encoded in 32kbps and I have a 512kbps/512kbps connection, so it should be enough to stream several connections at once. It sounds just like when a cd gets dirty or scracthed on the back. Anyway, it seems to go away if you can endure the terrible sound for

vorbis bitrates - offtopic
Hi, I'm experimenting with IceCast2, using DarkIce to generate the stream. I have found some peculiarities with the vorbis bitrates. In DarkIce, I call vorbis_encode_init() with about the following values: vorbis_encode_init( &vorbisInfo, 2, 44100, 96, 96, 96); which by all reasons should generate a 96 kb/s stream, as all max_bitrate, nominal_bitrate and min_bitrate are set to 96.
