My books are not conceived in terms of such a war, and offer no simple answers to simplistic questions. ----- Ursula Le Guin

[LLVMdev] "Name that compiler"
[Apologies in advance for the train of thought prose, but it is brainstorming after all…] I'm going to focus on self-descriptive names rather than literary or fantasy references… Advanced Compiler Kit, affectionately known as “ACK!”? It has an ill- deserved nod to NeXT, even. (Completely the wrong language, after all.) Core Compiler? Heh, I don't think that'd get past certain influential marketing departments. Nor is this a C API, but...

Although, you used my actual local domain in your example: mail.hprs.local. Not that I care, no one can get to that, but it might be clearer to those of us who uncomprehendingly monkey-type

[LLVMdev] how to transform elf binary to llvm IR?
For every level of translation [in terms of "human readable -> machine code translation", not someone translating a literary work from one language to another - although often some subtle details are lost here too], a little bit of the semantic meaning is lost. This means that you can almost never completely reconstruct the code in original form from the machine-code, or the C-code from the LLVM IR, or the C++ code from...

Mysql::Error: query: not connected
...ema_migrations` (`version` varchar(255) NOT NULL) ENGINE=InnoDB I read somewhere that new latest Rails doesn''t work with mysql properly and I have to reinstall mysql etc etc. I am seriously tired of this, it just doesn''t make any sense. I can set up Apache+PHP+MySQL environment literary in minutes, why Rails +MySQL takes days?? Is there a safe stack of Ruby+Rails+MySQL that I can just install and concentrate on web development?

Server disposal
Can anyone recommend a mailing list or other resource for finding a home for old server hardware? I've got a growing bone pile of retired Dell and Supermicro rack servers. I've stripped the drives and memory but hate to see the other old parts go to waste, like old RAID controllers and other proprietary parts.

Replacement web server time - catalog CPAN and PEAR installs
I'm looking to replace an OLD Fedora web server with a Centos 7 one. I'm currentlly in the process of documenting what is on the server ready to install the new one. While most things have been done with RPMs, some installs have had to be done via CPAN for Perl and PEAR for PHP. Is there a way of getting a list of everything that has been installed using these tools?

inplace (and append) support for partial-dir
...get (1) and (2) by using the '--temp-dir' and '--partial-dir' options appropriately. (3) alone can be done using the '--inplace' option. However this options don't mix in the current rsync version. In my opinion this is because the '--inplace' option is taken to literary. Together with the '--partial-dir' option its meaning should change to: "Change the partial (or temp) file in place and move it once it is finished." I see no technical reason why this should not work out. The same could be done for the '--append' option. PS: At the momen...

Installation and management of printer drivers from windows 7 clients (printers and faxes missing!)
Hello there. I have a network with 35 new Windows 7 (64 bit) PCs that should connect to printers via a cups/samba server. I want them to use their own windows drivers, and I want these to be installed automatically from print$ when they first connect. I'm trying to install the drivers from the clients as described here:

The ticket clinic, What Is U.S. Copyright Law?
...ed to understand the copyright symbol is not a requirement. Someone may have a copyright, yet their work may not have a copyright notice or symbol. US Copyright Law covers a wide range of things that are derived from artistic expression, intellectual or creative work. This includes things such as literary works, music, drawings, photographs, software, movies, choreographic works such as ballets and plays, poems, paintings and more. The law covers the form of expression, not the concept, facts or the actual idea of the work. This means that someone can use another person?s idea or concept and produce...
