Sporadic Issues
The problem is not icecast streaming, its trying to stream through a
browser. It is very complicated to do. Each browser has it quirks
depending on OS, version and what other audio programs that are
installed. Having the external player link should resolve the
issues. We gotten from using a browser player to letting the customer
choose there fave audio player to use :) Even this has cause

Thanks for all the feedback. We haven't found any specific reason for the reported issue, but since our site redesign our listenership has gone up significantly so we're going to stick with it until we can find a specific issue with icecast, media element, or some other component.

Android App for Icecast Administration

I had a look at
http://www.icecast.org/docs/icecast-2.3.3/icecast2_stats.html - is it
possible to get the aggregate time of listener connections from the
admin interface, or only by parsing the

Yes, usually you need to report at intervals, but in the meantime you
want to be able to predict those costs.
Ideally, you want to know the trends in listenership in real time - for
example, when I play a particular kind of music, do I get more stream
disconnections in a certain territory? In theory, we could return that
kind of metadata to the database of the playout system and use it to
tweak the playout.
It may be that we need to use something like

in the grand scheme of things in addition to investigating as to how cheating
can be significantly reduced:
1 - Represent the listeners on a different scale (was it live365 that
represented listeners by displaying one to four stars?)
2 - Don't sort streams according to their alleged listenership (maybe even go
so far as not allowing that column to be sorted), certainly don't present the
default listing of streams prioritized by this statistic.
In the case that number of listeners is no longer a value displayed to the
public I would place emphasis on *greatly* increasing the accurac...

a new directory service
So I've been doing some research and thinking here and there about what
a _good_ directory service for icecast would be like. I'd appreciate
some feedback and some discussion on this topic, before I start putting
a lot of effort into developing it.
First off, I think getting rid of # of listeners is a must. It just
creates a self-fulfilling prophecy and encourages cheating. I think the
