CRAN task views: markdown? better .CSS?
CRAN task views are useful, but they seem difficult to write and
maintain because the XML format is rather
limited (no sectioning) and the <packagelist> must be maintained manually.
They are also difficult to read because the generated html and .css used
are extremely basic, giving an
overly dense page.
Are there any markdown-like tools for writing a CTV? Is it possible to
apply a

Oracle database on zfs
Hi,
I am wondering if there is a guideline on how to configure ZFS on a server
with Oracle database?
We are experiencing some slowness on writes to ZFS filesystem. It take about
530ms to write a 2k data.
We are running Solaris 10 u5 127127-11 and the back-end storage is a RAID5
EMC EMX.
This is a small database with about 18gb storage allocated.
Is there a tunable parameters that we can apply to

The single major remaining Wine complaint everyone makes...
So Wine's main problem right off the bat, the big elephant in the room nobody really talks much about, is that its *apperance and performance in 2D apps is abysmal. It's odd, because 3D apps (after a small framerate drop) perform just fine. Maybe there's some technical explanation as to why 2D applications feel so sluggish by comparison, but that's not what I'm here to discuss.

How to scale mysql servers for a rails application?
I''m a developer working on an application that will potentially be
used by around 500,000 users on a daily basis. Plus some internal apps
communicating to it via ActionWebServices with a potentially high
demand.
Our Operations team is helping us define the necessary system
architecture, and I have one remaining question:
What is the best way to scale the database? I have no expertise in

[LLVMdev] RFC: Upcoming Build System Changes
...in SQA at NeXT taught me to wear many hats. Relevant
documentation cross-reference by revisions of a project where solutions
worked is also a must. [Works under llvm-2.8, llvm-2.9, clang-2.7,
clang-2.8, etc]
Like I said, my voice doesn't mean squat, but I'd suggest before trying
to put lipstick on a pig, you have the solution completed, tested and
fully documented. It goes much farther in convincing people to learn it.
By the way, the default Python version on Debian [and it's many spawned
Distros] is 2.7. On OS X I've got 2.7-3.2. I've got the same on Linux.
On both I hav...

resilver = defrag?
A) Resilver = Defrag. True/false?
B) If I buy larger drives and resilver, does defrag happen?
C) Does zfs send zfs receive mean it will defrag?

[LLVMdev] RFC: Upcoming Build System Changes
Hi all,
As you might have inferred, I'm in the process of working on some changes to the
way LLVM builds. I have outlined a rough proposal below, unless there are any
major objections I will probably start committing stuff next week.
This message may be verbose, if you want the executive summary, skip
to 'What This
Means For Jane "LLVM Developer" Doe' at the bottom.

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down...
http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html
Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
"If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually
become ubiquitously implemented
